Re: Bus Trip Update
When it comes to traveling there are a lot of people who talk about oh yeah I would do it but when it comes around no go and they sit at home in front of a TV. I'm glad I already have my trip planned out, and relatively inexpensive too. People on the fence need to hop over. The funny thing is people talk about money and how expensive and the economy. And some of the more well-off Cyclone fans I know are staying home and others who work for minimum wage are busing/driving down there with bigger groups since they can't afford to fly. Get off your tails and enjoy 60 degree weather and Cyclone football! Instead of being stuck back in boring iowa on new years in 10 degree weather.

I'm a single parent working 2 jobs so money is tight but I'm able to rationalize w/myself that this is a very affordable trip and I'm taking my daughter w/me. It helps that my aunt lives down there so I don't have to pay for a hotel but even if that wasn't the case I'm pretty sure I could find 2 or 3 other people to split a hotel w/me.
I think the big problem is that most people weren't expecting such a good location for a bowl game and so they didn't make plans to go and therefore didn't budget for it. Make it a Christmas gift folks, that's what I'm doing w/my 6 year old. She's getting a few little things under the tree to unwrap and then making this trip w/me. She's been asking to go on vacation or go to Arizona to see my aunt for two years now and it was never financially feasible so now that it is she'll be extremely excited to have that as her big Christmas gift and I get to enjoy some Cyclone football along the way. Family of 4 would cost roughly $2K for this trip. That's $500/piece and inludes bus ride, hotel for 3 nights, 4 game tickets, and then about $500 spending cash while you're down there. I'm guessing quite a few of you spend at least $500/piece on your family for Christmas. Heck game consoles these days almost cost that much themselves and people will stand in line in the freezing cold for hours the day after Thanksgiving waiting to get whichever new one comes out every year so their kid can be one of the first to have it.

I've probably responded to close to 200 emails and phone calls from people interested but nobody is committing. What do you think is the main reason behind this b/c they all sound like they are dying to get down to the game? Money is my thing. I just got back from a vacation with a big group of people and I honestly cannot afford anything right now. It really bums me out because I've been to every bowl game including both Shreveports and the Humanitarian Bowl. I just can't do the cost.

I guess my frustration comes from all the people who talked like they would go if they had a cheaper option but then one is made available and you no longer hear from them. I'm still optimistic that I'll get this bus filled up so it's not too big of a deal, just frustrating b/c if people acted on their words it would have been full and possibly had enough for another one by now.

It took awhile for us to bite the bullet because this year is our 30th and we want to take a trip later this year. BUT....We're Cyclone fans and when you get right down to it this opportunity just hasn't come around often enough so we decided to go for it anyway.
Come on Clone Fans..............GET ON THE BUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Re: Bus Trip Update
Last day to get signed up before I have to call this thing off! I would hate to do that to the ones already signed up but just can't make it happen w/out enough people. Jump on the bus people and go enjoy 60-70 degree temps and a Cyclone bowl victory!!!

Re: Bus Trip Update
How many people do you have/need?
-
Re: Bus Trip Update
As of now I have 31 signed up and confirmed. Need 19 more to make it go for $225/person and can hold up to 25 more. I have 23 people that are on a tentative list so it would be nice if I could get most of those to sign up to make this thing take off.

Re: Bus Trip Update
Come on Cyclone fans, especially you students who don't have 3 little kids to take with you. I would love to ride on this bus instead of sitting in my "mini-van" for 44 hours listening to Barney on the DVD player. Don't think you just can't afford it, that is what credit cards are for. Believe me memories like this won't come around very often in life. Just do it!!!
P.S. The most fun I have ever had on a vacation/sporting event was the last Insight bowl. I will never forget it.
