Rhoads Addresses Immediate Needs with Junior College Signees
AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head football coach Paul Rhoads focused on major recruiting priorities, signing four junior college players during the early signing period Wednesday. All four signees will be at ISU in January to begin classes and will participate in spring football.
“This gets us off to a great start for 2010,” Rhoads said. “The best thing about these young men is that they will get a chance to get acclimated academically and participate in winter workouts and be a part of spring football.”

It's a great sign when we are able to get JUCO gets to sign early. Usually these guys get picked over by the bigger programs and we have to take chances on other JUCO's

The great thing about all of this is that these guys are not grade liabilities. We're not going to find out in May that these guys didn't make it academically. The fact these guys graduated in December says something about them academically...and that's always a concern of mine with jucos.

I'm pretty sure that I can think of at least one Decmber grad/Jan enrollee who couldn't hack it academically, and washed out before the end of Spring semester.

However, I was pretty sure that center signee Joe McMahon a few years back was a January enrollee, and he ended up dropping out. Also ended up getting at least a pro tryout after transferring to one of the directional Michigan schools, IIRC. Anyone can feel free to correct me.
just sayin' that just because an athlete gets into school, even as a juco, doesn't mean he's prepared to stay.

Hopefully they can turn out as well as D Sims.

Jucos always make me a bit nervous, hopefully these guys have their heads on straight and are able to contribute right away.
