They only sold about 1500 last year. Brewster also doesn't have much support with either the fans or the administration. The AD has yet to decide if he will extend his contract or even bring him back next season.

i don't understand why that is the case. do they expect to win the big 10 year in, year out? i think of their position in the big 10 to be similar to ours in the big 12.
if the ticket sales are 6-1, and we have sold 7,000 as of earlier this week, then they have sold ~1,200 tickets at minnesota. if that is the case, then they should be on pace to sell as many if not more than last year.

That 44-41 game was the one that got Mason fired; I want to say that they had a 30 point lead in the 4th quarter and still couldn't win the game.

But to to the OP - no, Gopher fans don't care. There is reason that whenever Iowa or Wisconsin played at the Dome that they would fill half of the stadium with their fans. Have you ever met a die-hard Minnesota Golden Gopher fan?

It's all about the Vikings in Minneapolis, and sharing a stadium with the Vikings didn't help matters. They're trying to forge their own niche/identity with the new football stadium, but that stadium had large sections of empty seats at the end of the year.

Minnesotans don't care about this game or Golden Gopher Football. I haven't heard one news story on the Insight Bowl. It's sad really. Many Gopher fans say the reason ISU will outnumber us 6-1 in Phoenix, is there to so much to do in the TC. BS!! UM has always had terrible football fans and the program is in shambles.

If you have ever visited MU you would understand. There hockey is the number one sport, football is a second. Add that they have not faired well in the last years and you get what you are seeing now.

this. high school hockey in minnesota is bigger than Gopher football.
Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than selfish and worry about my liver."

Actually basketball is king at the U. I'm willing to Tubby Smith makes 3-4x the money that Lucia makes. Hockey is big in MN. But keep in mind that even in MN hockey is a niche sport. Lots of high schools don't even have a team. There are allot of co-op programs where one or two players from a given town play for a co-op and the MSHSL then considers that school to have a program. It's more of a storied sport than anything else. (ie. the state tourney) Hockey is big in MN but it's all relative to the popularity of the sport.

Well you would know more then I. Just everytime We visited a school in MN it seemed like hockey was the perfered sport. Even at MSU the hockey team was a D1 sport and the football team was a D2, if I remember right.

St Cloud, Duluth, Bemidji, and Mankato (we still call MSU "Mankato State") are all DI in hockey and DII in everything else. Don't get me wrong, hockey is popular in MN. But it's a niche sport. Gopher basketball is king.
