Re: Pollard....11,000 est crowd for ISU?
I was at last year's KU/Minnesota game. I think they claimed 45,000 for that game, but the stadium wasn't that full. Most of the seats filled were in the lower level. Still, we probably need to accept that this is a mid-level bowl with two 6-6 teams. Outside of us, it doesn't generate a lot of excitement. Given that, I think people will be surprised with the number of ISU fans who got their tickets other than through the university. I really do believe we'll have a good showing. I'm planning to be there!!!

Re: Pollard....11,000 est crowd for ISU?
If 8,300 tickets were sold thru the ISU ticket office, I expect there will be 15-20k ISU fans there. Given the pricing difference and knowing what seats you will get if you bought direct from the bowl or from stubhub, you have to expect lots of fans went for the better value and buy from someplace other than the ISU ticket office.
Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good. Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better. Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step. Re: Pollard....11,000 est crowd for ISU?
You would think there would be a good walk up crowd of snow birds from Iowa that still might not have purchased tickets yet

You can only play some many rounds of golf and shop at so many Native American trinket stores in your life.

Re: Pollard....11,000 est crowd for ISU?
My best guess is that the 3k estimate is from other sources that the bowl can track, direct from the bowl website and its corporate sponsors. The bowl has a preliminary estimate on those tickets and reports it to our athletic department. I highly doubt either the bowl reps or our department would venture to guess the number of tickets bought through stubhub and the like. So a guess of 15+ thousand ISU fans there sounds reasonable to me.

Re: Pollard....11,000 est crowd for ISU?
11000 would be pretty freaking amazing for a cross country bowl game for a team that is 6-6.

Re: Pollard....11,000 est crowd for ISU?
I find it very hard to believe that 3,000 were sold to ISU fans in other ways and I think Pollard's hype machine is going to be called out when game time rolls around. He can sell very well to the media but this is one case where he promised 15-20K would show up and if only 10K do, he deserves to be called out.
Yes, I know that he was hoping the fans would step up, but it's a fricken nightmare economy out there for a lot of people and overstating things can only lead to dissapointment that will hurt us in the future for bowl invites.
10-12K would still be decent considering the .500 record and the economy.

= 45,000, what's wrong with you larry, it's simple addition! and how many people in the Phoenix area might show up just to watch a football game? I know that if there was a bowl game just down the road between two BCS schools I would show up even if I didn't cheer for either team.

The Phoenix area is notorius for not being great at showing up to games. Arizona State for instance typically has a bad showing if anything else is going on anywhere in the valley.

Re: Pollard....11,000 est crowd for ISU?
I dont care if only 25 people show up. It will be great to watch the Clones one more time!
I went to both Shreveport and Houston games and I would expect the exact same following to those games in Phoenix.
10-12k ISU fans.... that seems to be a pretty consistent number for us and NOBODY should be surprised.
Who cares how many fans JP said would go ot the game. He helped get us in a better game than we all expected.
