Recruiting, where we stand this week....
With only 35 days til national signing day, what do we have, how many do we have left, and what do we want for late xmas presents to finish out one of Iowa States most talented recruiting classes in its history......
Now with Schwartz officially transferring, we can count that as a schollie to use or bank. So if my math serves me right, we will have a total class of 27.
Currently we have 24 commits, with the following breakdown:
1 qb
1 rb
2 te
2 wr
6 ol
1 de
1 dt
3 lb
5 db
1 ath
1 k
My guess would be 1-2 DL, 1-2 Ath, 1 RB.
DL
#1 Kenneth Kirksey - my previous #1 was Dartwan Bush who committed to Tech, now if only leach is fired and they get a whole new staff in there to push Bush away!!!
#2 Matangi Tonga - Juco DT ready to contribute.
#3 Paul Dancy - juco DE that appears to have size and speed, might visit.
#4 Tim Jackson - we offered a visit and he declined, he only has two officials left, dont look good for our chances with this kid.
#5 Josh Nunu - were his only offer, but, several big time bcs schools recruiting him.
Ath
#1 Venric Mack - need to get him here on a visit, very good athlete.
#2 Bernard Reedy - great athlete - contributes in a lot of different positions.
#3 Jamaal Perkins - this kid looks like he could contribute early - RB in hs projects as the same with great size and speed with abilities to contribute right away in the return game.
RB
Adrian Golden - if eligible
Shontrelle Johnson - with tech after him, i think our chances are reduced.

Just wondering why would a running back want to go to Texas Tech when their running back has as many rushing attempts as they do games?

Georgia Tech is what he meant.
Re: Recruiting, where we stand this week....
If we do have three schollies left I would like to see us get Mack, Kirksey, and either Tonga or Mahoney. I would not be upset if we got Adrian Golden because I see him as a risk reward from what we hear. We may get him for a year then he becomes ineligible. I don't think we NEED a RB in the last three or so guys. We are deep in the class ahead and we have Hollis swho I can see being pretty good.
I also think we will have a disappointment or two. It doesn't matter what school you are, it happens. I would say we will probably have 5 schollies left at this point. I figure we will find someone to not qualify and someone will switch. I don't know who, I just brace myself. Now, hopefully, we balance that out with getting someone we weren't counting on(Tim Jackson)

Even if they meant Georgia Tech, RBs at Tech catch a LOT of balls. They're not just on a shelf (or electrical closet) collecting dust.
Re: Recruiting, where we stand this week....
ISU has 2 spots left per CPR, not 3. Kirksey has some very nice things to say about ISU too. I wont be shocked if he's one of the last 2.
Re: Recruiting, where we stand this week....
In an interview on cyclones.com Monday CPR said we have two scholarships left. I do not think a transfer adds to the 25 limit you can sign in a year. We are at 26 because we had one carry over from 2009 class, and it was used on one of the JUCO's signed a few weeks ago.
I wonder if some of the kids that committed early will still be offered a scholly when it is all said and done if some real studs show interest at the end because of problems at Kansas and Texas Tech.
I can not remember this full of a recruiting class before the end of the year in the 40 years I have been following ISU football. Good job by the staff.

I believe we are limited by our total, not this class number specifically. I definitely could be wrong here. Having said that, Rhoads would be considering it two open spots right now. He isn't going to count JS out until it is official. That gives us the third if we can have a third. We have a 25 scholarship limit. I believe three of our early guys can sign back onto last years class. If that's the case that give us 28 for this class as long as we are under the total scholarship allowance.
Re: Recruiting, where we stand this week....
If Texas Tech stole any recruits from us, I say we go back after them. Especially at WR.. If Leach is fired, who knows what kind of offense the new guy will bring in? Could scare some guys away

Would love to see Kirksey and then maybe make a few calls to Dartwan Bush now that Leach is officially out - would he consider ISU now that he won't know who his head coach and more importantly his position coach is going to be....

Here's an update on both Jackson & Reedy. Not looking good w/Jackson, which I think we all figured per the decline of a visit but Reedy is an interesting kid as he's been dominant (offensive player of the county) but not a ton of big name interest, we should be able to close the deal if he visits, IMO.

Scout has Golden visiting here on the 22nd, that's our last big recruiting weekend push. I don't know how accurate it is though because there have been recent articles on him about visiting junior colleges.

He could dual sign...Sign with both us and the Juco. Give us a good chance at getting him on his way out of juco.
