nebraska back on top of the north?
they sure look good (so far) tonight. their offense is actually doing something and their defense is looking better than ever (which says a lot). sucks to admit it but they are clearly the best team in the north right now and it's not even close.
i know everyone will hound me with "yeah well we whooped their a$$es". we no actually we didn't. we survived. if we played them 10 times this season i would have put money on them the other 9, we just happened to win the 1st of the 10. can't hope for another +8 turnover margin in one game again next year.
it seem as though they are on the right track to becoming the dominant team of old. maybe not national title contenders year in and year out, but a legit top 15 team nonetheless.

Nebraska could be 12-1 right now. They let the ISU, Texas, and VT game slip through their fingers. And unfortunately they will probably be better next year.

Re: nebraska back on top of the north?
As much as I hate to say it, I can't disagree with you.
They played Texas very well and they are dominating so far.
Might be in trouble next year when they have a score to settle with us.

Yeah, next season will be interesting. We could have a better team next year, but our record may not show it.

Re: nebraska back on top of the north?
I think Nebraska is missing the quality wins that would make them a top 10 or top 15 team. Their best games of 2009 were moral victories against Virgina Tech & Texas. But I agree they are by far the best team in the North right now and will be in the driver's seat going into 2010. Partly because Pelini has improved them and partly because the rest of the North division is flat out not very good.
Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good. Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better. Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step. My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk,superdorf, clones_jer. That is all. -
Re: nebraska back on top of the north?
Nebraska will likely end the 2009 season with a 10-4 record and winners of the Big 12 North and the Holiday bowl. Very impressive.
But, we play them @home next season, and Paul Rhoads has never lost to them as a ISU's head coach
Crazy things can happen, and we need another epic win from the Cyclones next season inside Jack Trice.

Re: nebraska back on top of the north?
Looking at Nebraska's last couple of games, it's hard to figure out how we beat them.........until you remember that they turned the ball over EIGHT times to us. -
Re: nebraska back on top of the north?
looks like EVERY other team in the north failed in a terrible way to take advantage of an incredibly weak north division for the better part of a decade. KU likely slipping, isu failed twice to capitolize and made a bad hire (in hindsight), colorado is in a terrible situation, ksu made a bad coaching decision and had to call "dad" back to help. even though nebraska failed miserably with callahan no one could take advantage and become a power.
mizzou would be the only one considered somewhat of a power. this was somewhat of a down year, but they are still pretty salty

We'l are what happens next season when they don't have Suh. Their defense is very good, but Suh is the difference maker.

How many drives against Nebraska's defense this season, by any team, that started inside the 10 resulted in points?

Re: nebraska back on top of the north?
don't say nebraska could be 12-1 right now. Jeesh, if everyone could win every close game...?

If that offense doesn't improve, we could very well make it 2 in a row. I, for one, am already completely jacked up about that game next fall.

our offense on the other hand is still anemic and our defense isn't much better ranking 10th or 11th in the big 12 in yards given up AND we lose all three LBers half the DL and half of the DB's. that's a bigger hit than losing suh.
