Class Act - Observations from Tempe
Heard and saw a couple of great things in Tempe (outside of the WIN). Coach R during one of the banquets, didn't do what most head coaches do - talk about the quarterback, the running back, the season, etc. etc. Instead, he said that the ENTIRE squad made the trip because each player is academically eligible! This blew a lot of people away - no coach talks about academics and student athletes at these things. Our coach did!
Second, that he brought Schwartz along even though the young man is transferring. As the Coach said, he earned the trip!
Finally, I was sitting with a Fiesta Bowl Committee member during the game, and he leaned over, looked at the lower stands full of Cyclone fans, and said, "That is what earns teams repeat trips!"
Next year, I believe the Insight Bowl gets to take the number 3 Big 12 team. Would be good to be back!!

Number 4 team I believe, but I'd prefer our return trip to be in Glendale not Tempe.

Re: Class Act - Observations from Tempe
While we deserve the repeat invitation, I want to go to a bowl that will help us more in terms of recruiting. There are so many intangible benefits to a bowl game: extra practice, media attention, and indirect recruiting. In terms of recruiting, wouldn't we want to go to a bowl in Texas?

Re: Class Act - Observations from Tempe
There are 5 bowl games in Texas. I really only think the Alamo or Cotton Bowl would benefit us. Sun might, Texas and Armed Forces would do nothing for us.
41-51 Record in CF Mafia. The most games played and wins by any player in Cyclone Fanatic History. Yes, I'm a nerd. -

Wouldn't being present at any bowl in Texas for a week and being such a focus of attention be helpful? I don't know about recruiting rules, but prospective players (and their coaches and famliies) could spend a lot of time following the team, etc. The more they see of CPR, the better!

Re: Class Act - Observations from Tempe
With all of the media today and the internet you can find out a whole lot without even talking to coaches or seeing the school so I'm not sure being in a Texas bowl helps that much if any at all. Just being visual on TV is a big thing for ISU, but CPR will turn alot of heads with what he says and how he acts and youtube doesn't hurt either.
I love this school!

Re: Class Act - Observations from Tempe
Almost every bowl in TX will helps us, once the celebtration is done, we are back to square one for 2010.
We need to win each game as it comes them worry about whether we are to good for any bowl.

Next year the Big12 Finally gets rid of the Sun and Indy bowl. Those are not good bowls. They move up the insight bowl and the Holiday bowl becomes kind of what the Insight it now. The Texas Bowl will be against a Big10 team next year. I think if we could play Northwestern, Purdue, Mich st in Houston that would be really fun.
I am bummed the Alamo is moving up b/c that is probably one of the best bowls out there. San Ant is setup nice for a bowl game with the river walk.
I am a HUGE Fan of bowl games on New years eve though. Its so much better than watching a bowl game during the work week.
Make sure you don't call the charge. But make sure you call the foul on the scrum.... -

Here is Next Year's Big 12 Bowl Lineup: Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and/or BCS National Championship Game AT&T Cotton (SEC) Valero Alamo (Pac-10) Insight (Big Ten) Pacific Life Holiday (Pac-10) Texas (Big Ten) New York Yankees (Big East) Dallas Football Classic/Eagle Bank (Big Ten/ACC) The Yankee Bowl and the Dallas Football Classic are two new bowl games, but I hope we don't fall that low. I hope we aren't in the Texas Bowl either. I'm ok with any of the other bowls.

I know the Big 12 used to have the Gator bowl, which I believe alternated with us and another conference. But, it sure would be nice to have a permanent bowl in Florida.

I wouldn't mind christening the Yankee Bowl and spending NYE in Times Square.

I don't think we should be ready to announce that any bowls do nothing for us, especially with Utah, Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech replacing Army, Baylor, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State on the schedule next year.
Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good. Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better. Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step. My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.
