Re: 2010 Football Expectations
Pretty simple for me really. Rhoads is always preaching about getting better. He never predicted wins or anything like that. He always said the wins would take care of themselves if we just were always improving.
So... from that.. I guess a 7-5 year would be an improvement upon this year's 6-6, correct? HOWEVER... I actually think going 6-6 again next year would be an improvement with next year's schedule.
So I'd be happy with 6-6 again... and anything above that would be icing.
Re: 2010 Football Expectations
I want wins against Nebraska and Iowa, and also make a bowl (obviously). That would be fantastic. I'm pretty sure we have never beat Texas yet, so a win against them would be wonderful as well.
Re: 2010 Football Expectations
I'd like to see us go 3-1 non-conference and 5-3 conference, but I'm not crossing my fingers on it. I can see us going 6-6 again, and I'll consider it an improvement due to the schedule differences. It would be fantastic to upset a South team and Utah.
The one solid expectation I have is to beat Nebraska. We have to come out solid in that game, especially since it's at home. They're going to be out for blood, so we have to prove the win this year wasn't a fluke. Beating a historic program like Nebraska two years in a row is exactly what the program needs in terms of recruiting and national attention.
I'm a bit biased against Nebraska, though...

and beat Utah.
Unfortunately everything after KSU looks dismal. Colorado at Colorado is tough no matter who is coach. Do we get the Missouri we usually play, or the one that played at the bowl game this year? New coaches at TxTech and Kansas. Nebby will be looking for Revenge.
Re: 2010 Football Expectations
Al_4_State,
I looked at the depth charts for one thing. Northern Illinois loses something like 3 starters between offense and defense, I believe Utah loses half of their starters on both sides of the ball. My co-workers brother in law is the S & C coach at Northern Ill, he feels they are going to be pretty good next season also.
Do not worry about UNI, they lose most of their lines I believe. ISU should put a hurt on them.

Re: 2010 Football Expectations
To be honest I see any where from six to nine wins on that schedule. Even the three toughest games, ok tx and ia, don't seem unwinnable. I think people are making Utah out to be better then they will be and under estimating n. Ill. If I were CPR my goals for next year would be to win a bowl game and finish with a winning record in the big 12. Every year just keep adding a new goal until they become expectations.
Re: 2010 Football Expectations
I have a problem with this prediction...i think as ISU fans we need to stop assuming Iowa will beat us for one. 2nd i think to assume that schools like OU and Texas will continue to blow us out year after year is wrong. Expecting to win those games next year i dont think is in the cards at this point but for as much potential this team has under CPR is through the roof. Im not getting my hopes up nor unrealistic expectations but i just think it burns me to expect Iowa to beat us again, OU and Texas to blow us out. I do think 7-5 is attainable though. Good post i just had to share that considering how much i hate iowa, ou and texas.
Re: 2010 Football Expectations
So I've heard in this thread that we are going to beat Iowa, Utah, Tech, OU, and NU; so I'm going to to say it:
11-1 with the highest BCS ranking in the Big 12.
why not?
Re: 2010 Football Expectations
I see a few people have predicted a win against Iowa. I'm just curious what the thinking is behind this as Iowa doesn't lose much and destroyed ISU 35-3 in Ames. They're basically running into the same team, except it's in Iowa City and Hampton is back.

I agree. It's a rivalry game and anything can happen, but a win over Iowa would be a huge upset. It would be similar to the 2002 upset and bigger than 2005. Good chance Iowa will have that kind of season (2002).
I think there's also a good chance the game will be closer, I don't expect AA to play like he did. Keep in mind though, Stanzi missed a lot of open guys in that game. 35-3 could have easily been much worse.

...because it is the Iowa/ISU game. Anything can happen.
I personally think a win against the hawks is possible, but not probable given what you guys have coming back.
However, while you noted that ISU will be running into the same team, Iowa will not. In year two of the new offensive scheme (as opposed to game 2) I am hoping for much improved execution from AA and a healthy A-Rob (who was good against Iowa this year). Do you think that Iowa will win 35-3 again, because I sincerely doubt they will.
There are a lot of guys predicting an Iowa loss as well, so don't get your panties in a bunch.

That was game two of a new coach and a new system. If we finally get comfortable on offense, like most of us think we will over the off season, the turnovers won't be as plentiful this go around which will make it a much closer game.
Also, remember the last time this happened. The Cyclones squeaked by to get into a bowl game, won the bowl to end the season with 7 wins (come to think about it, we lost to Missouri in the last game of the year). Iowa dominated ISU and finished the season with 10 wins. Next season Iowa was in the top ten for the cy-hawk game and ISU wasn't even expected to finish on top the North and should I go on.
With all that said, no I don't think we will win; nor do I think Iowa will win by more than a touchdown.

That Iowa squad had an entirely new defensive line and Tate got knocked out in the first quarter.
This Iowa squad is returning one of their best defensive lines ever and has a capable backup if Stanzi goes down.
Re: 2010 Football Expectations
NIU Win (If ISU wins this one, it's a terrible omen)
Iowa Loss (possibly big...Iowa doesn't lose a whole lot, Stanzi will have another year under his belt...the Hawkeyes will be very good again)
Utah Loss (Its in Ames, but Utah will again be pretty good)
UNI Win (I think this one will be close, though)
Tech Loss (I'm not sure why everyone thinks they'll fall off the table next season)
KSU Win (No comment needed)
OU Loss (Again, I'm not sure why people think Oklahoma won't be good next season...they'll compete with Texas for the South title)
Texas Loss (If Texas finds a quarterback, which they probably will, they could win big)
Kansas Win (This one could go either way though...give Gilll a year or two)
Nebraska Loss (possibly big...Nebraska's defense could be even better next year, plus 9 starters returning on offense)
Colorado Win (This is another one that could go either way...ISU gets the nod because of Colorado's inept coaching staff)
Missouri Loss (Gabbert will get nothing but better...Missouri will finish second in the North)
Overall record 5-7
