From 1970-72, he was ISU's assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. Originally Posted by Wesley He was his right hand man. That's what I thought - I could only find reference to Sherrill being an assistant to Majors at Pitt before WSU (and his subsequent return to Pitt as head man.)

Re: Coaches with ISU Connections
Larry Coyer served as ISU's D-Coordinator from 1979-82 and again from 1995-96. He is currently the Defensive Coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts.
Darrell Bevell, offensive coordinator for the Minn. Vikings, was ISU's QB Coach in the late '90s before he joined the Packers staff in 2000.

A bit of a stretch, but...
Joe Avezzano (1969-72 @ ISU), Special Teams with Dallas Cowboys & Oakland Raiders, Head Coach of Dallas Desperados

Re: Coaches with ISU Connections
Sherrill got in trouble down South after his stint at Pittsburgh, when for team motivation prior to playing Texas he had a Longhorn Bull castrated at the 50 yard line. Caused an uproar and could you imagine doing that today with the political correct crowd. It would be worse than Mangino and Leach who were only verbally abusive.

Edit: Looked it up. He as head coach at Oregon State from 1980 to 1984. Overall record of 6-47-2. Yikes!
