Iowa State second to last in attendance in Big 12
I was very surprised to see Iowa State was second to last in the big 12 for average attendance for football games. Hopefully after the spark we had this past year from our football team we can get that number higher! Four Big 12 teams rank among NCAA top 20 in attendance - Big 12 Blog - ESPN “I told you, I don’t care if you’re black or white. I don’t care if you’re rich or poor. I don’t care where you come from, whether it’s Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I don’t care about any of that… But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads -

Given capacity, ISU can't increase their standing much more.

Im guessing the only stadium smaller is BU, so there isnt much we can do

No this isn't stadium capacity, it is average attendance for last season's football games. Our average attendance is about 84% of our capacity.

When we really pack it in for a big game, we can get up into the mid 50s for attendance. Yeah, the hills are pretty packed, but it can be done. If we could get just over 50, we could pass up KSU, CU, TT, and KU. And if we maxed the place out consistantly we could get by OSU as well.
I think this just shows how far that south endzone project could go for us, even if it only moves us to something like 55k seats and 5k hillside. Mizzou is 5th in attendance at 64k, and 2nd in the North. If we could get to the 55k range consistantly we would be in the top half of the league. For little old low budget no football tradition ISU, that would be huge.
Let's face it, the top 4 are in a totally different class than the rest of the league, and I don't see us ever getting there. But the improvements needed to get from 11th to 5th or 6th don't seem that out of line at all.

Our % is higher than it shows. The day we squeeze 55,000 people into the Jack, lemme know.

Re: Iowa State second to last in attendance in Big 12
So it looks like at best we could be 6th

We have 43,000 seats. That's an average of 3,000 game in standing room only. For some reason the AD thinks we can get 55,000 on the hills. They've sold those tickets before, but alot of people couldn't see a damn thing once we get over 49-50K. I think our attendance is pretty good, given the prior 3 seasons.

Re: Iowa State second to last in attendance in Big 12
If we averaged 54K we would be right in the middle. That is goal that we should have. I know this probably won't happen, but what if this was our next 5 years...

I bet we could find a few bandwagon fans with winning:)
I guess my point is never say never. There was a point in time where nobody cared about Iowa football either.

Re: Iowa State second to last in attendance in Big 12
If we can go 5+ years without a losing season (tough to do), with several 8 or 9+ win seasons, our attendance will be on the upswing where we can move up on charts like this.

Re: Iowa State second to last in attendance in Big 12
As others have pointed out... our average is somewhere near our seating capacity
We have hit 55,000 in a game or two, but thats not exactly normal conditions
That said, our attendance usually drops off in November, so there is certainly room to improve our average
Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -

Haves and have nots. For every one Michigan homegame we would need 2+ to equal...that is a shame.
