However, what if we got an entire class of 4 star recruits, but they were all WRs. That would be the best ISU class ever. But it wouldn't suit our needs, would it?
We've had back to back years of really poor DL recruiting. That is not good no matter how you kool aid drinkers want to spin it. What it will mean in the next few years is that we will be forced to go all JUCO on the DL. And I'm not excited about having to do that at all. Rhoads said we addressed every area of the team today. That is not accurate. I understand why he has to say that, but he knows it's not true. One JUCO DE, that may or may not end up here in the end, and one freshman project two star DT from Rhoads home high school. That does not cut it folks. Sorry to ruin your day. Facts hurt sometimes. Get over it. Great, now we have a coach who flat out lies to the media about his recruiting. Whats next? -

Either way, he's signed, so he isn't going to reopen his recruiting. And I'd bet that focusing on that one class, he'll pass it no problem. Sure, it sucks that he won't be there for spring practice, but he is already ahead of the curve getting acclimated to ISU and lifting. It sounds as if he's staying in Ames and taking the course online, so really, spring practice is all that we're out.
I don't buy the whole thought of a vast majority of visitors committing being a great thing. Most didn't have a bunch of BCS offers and even the ones that did didn't make many if any other official visits to BCS schools. We didn't get into many battles where recruits visited ISU plus other BCS schools and chose ISU. Kirksey was one. Hubert was another. Now that's not necessarily a terrible thing. Many committed early and didn't need to take officials to decide. But it sitll always comes down to evaluation. If some of the guys who had no other offers (Thomas, McCullough, Morgan, Jensen, Kron) end up being good players, then we have something special in this staff. If not, then they were reaching. And you can ask McCarney about what reaching for recruits will do for you.
I also don't buy that DL was truly addressed. Nelson, Kron and Jensen may turn out to be great players, but the pipeline is pretty empty, especially if you want to rotate guys. DL/DE is going to have to be a major recruiting emphasis next year. Regardless, I think it was a good class. Hubert bailing isn't going to hurt all that much...especially since it sounds like both Bennett and Morgan could eventually be LBs.

It is not the players that you don't get or miss out on that kill you. It is the players you do get that can't play.Rhoads said these players can play. That is good with me.

No way is it a train wreck that he doesn't graduate till Spring.

I trust this coaching staff to take the players they got and make them better. I could not have said that about the immediately prior staff. I am excited to see what they can do with the players they have.

Oddly enough, in the end his credits didn't "add up."
He probably wouldn't appreciate that joke right now.

I trust in all things Paul Rhoads, what he did last year (who cares about the schedule) with players that won 5 games in two years, was a sign of good things to come. Maybe we did not get the extra DLinemen we needed, but we can fill in next year with another JUCO transfer. Alot of people question Mac on this site and I am one of them, he deserves it, he is a not a Big 12 coach, but do not question Paul Rhoads, unlike Mac, he is a teacher and a motivator.
