A lot of people have been talking about the 2002 class. While that class may have had some higher ratings, a bunch of those high rated guys did nothing at ISU.
See Below. Stevie Hicks and Austin Flynn were really the only 4 star players to really contribute a ton. A bunch of the players weren't even on the 2003 roster.

Let's not jump all over this kid for not graduating early. It's not like he will miss a season or anything. He is signed, so if he wants to play it will have to be here. Sure missing 15 practices isn't going to help but at least he is coming in at a position that he can make an impact at off sheer physical ability. At DE it is more about instincts and individual performance than anything else. I do wish he was here to train though.

Scott Stephenson DE Ended up at Minnesota then transfered back as a Center Whats that, about 5-6 contributors? That class had 2 good players, one solid one and then some other stuff. I really see quite a bit more in this class.

I think we'll be fine at lb for the next few years even with the loss of Hubert. I love what Klein and Knott bring and we've got other good prospects already on the team. I'm sure CPR and staff are building relationships with some good d-linemen in the junior class and juco freshmen that will take care of our future needs on the d-line.

I'm no recruiting expert, but for recent classes, I think the 2003 class stands out as the one to measure against. Here are the main contributors from that class (from what I remember of their on-field production):
Ben Barkema
Caleb Berg
Jason Berryman
Todd Blythe
Aaron Brant
Brent Curvey
DeAndre Jackson
Bret Meyer
Milan Moses
Kurtis Taylor

Re: Disappointing day IMO... and probably in Wally Burnham's eyes too.
I was disappointed as well. It almost seems like the more desperate we are for help on the DL, the less success we have had in recruiting. Look at our DL signings over the last 2 years.
'09 DT Walter Woods, DE Taylor Martin (never showed up)
'10 DT Brandon Jensen, DE Rony Nelson
That's it. And those '09 and '10 classes came after seasons in which ISU ranked 94th and 111th in nation in sacks. So it was pretty obvious where we needed some help and could offer ample playing time to new recruits. That's what makes it so disappointing.
Here's what really concerns me. We lost our top DE (Kurtis Taylor) in 2009 and replaced him with Neal/Maggitt and dropped from 94th in the nation to 111th nation. Next year we again lose our top DE (Christopher Lyle). That's what makes Nelson so critical because no one else has proven anything. Rashawn Parker has 8 career sacks in 3.5 seasons. Parker's best season was his freshman season when he had 3 sacks, all of which came in his first two games. I don't fault his effort, but Parker has pretty much been invisible since the Toledo/UNLV games in 2006. Other than Parker, our only other DEs with experience are Neal and Maggitt and they each struggled mightily in 2009 (especially Neal). Rhoads and Burnham indeed do have their work cut out for them next season. http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.js...&div=IA&dest=O -

I am going to blindly expect huge things from Parker next year with no factual basis because that what I wish to happen.

There are more players in those classes due to some position changes:
'09 DT Woods, DE Scott, DE Lattimer, DE Moore, DE Martin (didn't show)
'10 DT Jensen, DE/DT Kron (I'm betting he skips the greyshirt now), DE Nelson
