Herman
I've heard many people say they were disappointed in what Herman did last year. I haven't really looked at it until today and here is what I found out.
___________2008________2009
rushing-----1661---------2340
passing-----2981---------2401
total-------4642---------4741
3rd %------38%---------41%
4th %------50%---------58%
red zone----71%---------84%
1st downs---241---------252
Except for passing yards, ISU improved in every area despite Big 12 defenses being dramatically improved over last season (Average total defense for the Big 12: 2008-402.14 ypg, 2009-340.44 ypg) and being year one into implementing a completely different system from what ISU has had in the past. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do next year.

It also helped having a MUCH improved defense that wasn't on the field 90% of the game.

Re: Herman
Great post. The key for the offense will be Austen 'getting it'.

Re: Herman
3rd and 4th down and red zone efficiency all stems from being able to run the ball. ISU did a much better job of that and it made everything easier. The only question is how AA didn't have a better year since he had a better run game and good protection. Next year it all comes down to his improvement.

His throws were great for the most part. If Herman gets his mechanics right it could be a special season for him.

Re: Herman
I was very pleased with Herman this year. QB play was questionable at best during a large stretch of the season. Then, we had one of our top receivers in Darks being banged up half the year.
I think we'll have a top 25-30 offense nationally next year. Arnaud will be a lot better.

Re: Herman
Do those yardage totals include the bowl game for this year?

******! Herman knows what he's doing for ****sake, and so does CPR. For some stupid reason, I've always felt the need to explain myself to this audience, and I've never called anyone out, but this thread ******* STUPID...sorry.

In fact everything seems quite the opposite of saying that.

I don't want to over-hype what Tom has done thus far, but I am cautiously optimistic about where he can get this offense by mid season next year. Like I said I'm probably setting myself up to be disappointed, but I really believe we'll see the high-octane Rice-style offense he put together a few years back.

I would recommend you don't ever call anyone out again. You called someone, I don't know who, out yet there is nothing to call anyone out for. I think the OP showed these stats with the intent to show that in his first year our offense was better than the previous.

The only thing that bothers me is I could swear I have read 2 or 3 different times during the year that Austen has finally picked up the offense. Don't get me wrong, I hope he has it just seems like a recurring story that I am still a little skeptical of. I think a fairly accurate QB would flourish in Herman's system and I hope Austen can be that QB.

If I am, I apologize in spades. If I am validated, I apologize for nothing related to my rant, and I'll probably throw some more *******s in there for good measure.
