Here are some

4. Miami UCLA 1995 - the beginning of the post-probation period canes
5. Oklahoma Nebraska 1959 - marked OU's dethronement of dominance of the Big 8 conference, but began a down period that lasted until the early 70s

Well if we are talking about crushing losses how about when Texas beat us 56-3 a couple years back. Now that was a crushing loss.

If we were talking about crushing losses in ISU history we'd need to expand this to a Top 100.
Re: what do you consider the top 10 program crushing losses?
what i mean by a program crushing loss is a loss that sends a program, that up until then was a national title caliber team, into mediocrity, that lasts for at least a couple years. This is the type of loss that a lot of people would point out as "the beginning of the end." This can include any team, not just ISU.

This is right on. That game took all of the wind out of a very promising year, maybe something like Kansas or Mizzou in the last couple seasons. Mac had a couple decent seasons later on, but that was the year to take the next step and that was the game that prevented us from taking it.
Also, ISU bball vs Hampton. As we all know, it has been a whole lot of ugly since then.

I don't agree with #2. Michigan came back that same year and beat Florida and Urban in a good bowl game at the end of the season, all while under Lloyd Carr. The only reason they are in a tailspin is the new coach is not getting it done.

Basketball: ISU-Hampton 2001

ISU over Iowa in Football 2002. Prevented Iowa from having a shot at the national title.
Re: what do you consider the top 10 program crushing losses?
When HB signed with Roy Williams.

Haha, I think you have confused Roy Williams with some guy named Roy Smith and I think you have also confused ISU with a school that has a basketball program left to crush.
Re: what do you consider the top 10 program crushing losses?
My top most crushing ISU losses in the last 10 years
Iowa State vs. Oklahoma 2002 We were on a roll looking like we could take on the world and then comes a rainy day where nothing seems to go right for the cyclones and then we play defeated for the rest of the season.
Iowa State vs. Hampton 2001 2 seed in the tournament but lost in the first round. Don’t really need to say much here.
Iowa State vs Florida State 2002 FLorda State was I believe number 5 in the country when we played them in the Eddie Robinson Classic. 1 yard short of a chance to go to overtime. Or so the officials say...
Too lazy to finish this list so i will just name the other ones I was thinking of in no particular order except for which ever one comes to mind first. Iowa State vs. Kansas Overtime loss with the free throw, 3-pointer, free throw. Against Nebraska in I think it was double or triple overtime against Nebraska in football. This year against both Kansas and especially Kansas State. Iowa State vs. Alabama in the Independance bowl (probably would have been # 4) Last year against Colorado (really the option? no one knew that play was coming) Whenever we lose to Iowa. I can’t really think of any more right now but I’m probably missing an obvious one.
Re: what do you consider the top 10 program crushing losses?
No one is going to mention the Missouri game that cost us the chance at the Big 12 championship?
