Job making sure players go to class
I put this under the football board b/c the person I talked with stated mostly he monitors fb players...
I was talking with a grad student this week and he revealed to me that one of the three jobs he currently has is to monitor class attendance by ISU athletes. He gets paid to sit outside various classes anonymously while checking to see if the athletes on his list go to class.
Many ways to perceive this...ridiculous, justified, waste of money, worth the money, coddling, etc. I'm leaning toward the ridiculous side of this...people getting paid to make sure an adult attends class.
Opinions?

Re: Job making sure players go to class
coaches are getting paid big bucks to win football games. If players don't go to class they'll risk losing their eligibility and it'll be a lot harder for that coach to win games. Big time football programs can't afford NOT to do stuff like this.
read this post quickly - it might not last long -

That job has been around for years.

Re: Job making sure players go to class
Probably isn't needed at Northwestern, Vandy, Stanford, Duke, etc. (I don't know that for sure), but am sure it is at most BCS schools. I agree it is sad.

Re: Job making sure players go to class
If players could be trusted to go to class then this wouldn't be necessary.
I still want to know how Darren Davis ever passed a class I had with him. I'd go to every class and study my butt off just to get a hard earned C+ yet he'd usually show up 1/2 way through class and sit down and take a nap and never take a single note in a class that the exams were heavy on questions from lecture material.

Opinions? This was done when I went to school in the 70's.
As a fan base, when a player does not stay academically eligible we blame the coaching staff for not paying attention to the players. So I think is a good investment, and protects the much bigger pot of money spent on tutors.

Re: Job making sure players go to class
I don't think it is a big deal. I am sure the players are aware that they are being monitored.

Obvious. You did not play football. He had extra credit points for sleeping and you did not.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
