Wally Burnham on the 2010 defense

I did this interview a few weeks ago. Here's some insight from Coach Burnham.

Great interview Chris. You hit all the questions I wanted to know about, especially WB's thoughts on the young linebackers like Knott and Klein. I'm really hoping Alburtis steps it up this year and can give us a pass rush from inside. Being a former high school qb I'd think he has the athletic ability and now the size to shine this year.

Wally is really a no BS kind of a guy, just says it like it is, and doesn't try to give false hope. Wish he could coach for us next 20 years.

I'm curious about this too. I have hope that he will turn out to be a pretty good player at DT, because of his athletic ability. He was a MLB prior to coming to Iowa State. Hope he's okay.

I really hope he talks to the team like he does in interviews. Sounds like no-nonsense old school kind of guy which I love.

    Good read Chris,

Anybody have any predictions for what the 2-deeps look like come fall? Outside of Sims at SS and LJ at corner, everything is somewhat up in the air...

    Here's my uninformed prediction...

There's a lot of youth, but a lot of potential as well. At the very least, I expect the 2011 defense to be pretty darn good.

Re: Wally Burnham on the 2010 defense

I have nothing constructive to add to this discussion except my glee in knowing Wally Burnham is our defensive coordinator. I just love the guy. He's got the wisdom that comes with age and the experience too. Not to mention his son is on the staff. How cool is that.

I hope he sticks around for as long as he wants because the guy just gets it, and more importantly, gets results.

Re: Wally Burnham on the 2010 defense

A guy last night asked the coaches who our 3 starting LB's would be and Messingham said, "that's easy." Then he listed Knott, Klein, and Lattimore. Pope chimed in with Tafou's name as well

If, and this is a huge if, we can find a way to pressure the QB without blitzing, I think this could be one of our better defensive units in a long, long time.

Better hope Rony comes through this Summer. Could end up being worse than last year.
