A surprise standout so far this spring...

Has been Keith Blanton. WR coach Luke Wells specifically pointed him out in an interview after practice today. Sounds like even more depth is emerging at the wide receiver position for Iowa State. I'll post the full interview within the hour on our front page.

Sounds awesome, but I'm always leery of players sounding great during the first few days of spring practice. It's the primetime "NEXT YEAR NATIONAL CHAMPS!" talk

I'm waiting to get excited until I see everyone play this year. Last year was a bbuuuuuzzz kill.
Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

He was good. I don't want to bash him. I liked him as a player. But, spring reports always built him up in my mind, and he never quite lived up to my expectations. Especially the spring after he redshirted. If I recall correctly, he lit it up in the spring game. I was super excited about him.

Good to hear. Maybe we'll see some "depth" this year. I'll be cautiously optimistic.

Re: A surprise standout so far this spring...

I always thought Davis was (and I know this sounds messed up), a pretty good possession guy. He actually made a lot of tough, tough catches. It was the wide open guaranteed touchdowns that he had problems with. He got a lot of first downs along the sidelines, and kept a lot of scoring drives alive. Not a "great", but a solid role player.

That's GREAT news about Blanton. WR is the position that needs the most improvement from last year, IMO.
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

CW, have you heard anything about Lonzie Range this spring?

Blanton was impressive last year on scout team, very solid. He *should* get some time.
