Big 10 going to 4x4 Divisions?

Why does Texas need their own TV Network? I'd think a Big 12 Network would make them more $. No one outside of Texas is going to care about a Texas Network.

I think you could have a Texas Network, in Texas, and a Big 12 Network that included Texas outside the state. Hell, the MWC has their own netwrok. The Big 12 can do it.

Or, you create a Texas Network, and just get all the Big 12 games on various standard cable channels. That way those guys get what they want, and we get our games on TV.

KU's AD made a comment about a month ago that he thought in the future the BCS schools would come together and create their own organization. Pretty much eliminating the NCAA. I thought that was a strange comment but now that I look at the talk of these Super Conferences I could see it happening in the future. The Super Conferences would get together and have their own Football and Basketball Tourney. They would invite the other schools also (especially to the bball) and those schools would jump at it because they would be revenue starved and do anything for a pay check. If this happens the Super Conferences would dominate the revenue and the rich would get much richer. Not a good sign if you aren't currently in the Big 10, Pac 10 or Southeastern Conference, because the Big 12 is in a position to lose some of their schools and the schools that get invited would be invited because of their potential tv audience.

Who knows what the future holds but being a Jayhawk I don't feel good about it. Kansas just doesn't have enough tv's to help their cause.

I looked over at HawkeyeNation and they are making fun of the meltdown on this board. The funny thing is, Big 10 would drop them at the drop of a hat if they had to!

I'd like to see a link or any sort of evidence claiming this. The big tens academic standards are much higher than that of the big 12. It all has to do w/ grad schools and stuff like that. That is why Nebraska would have to make some changes that they appear to be willing to make. I just find it funny that someone says the big10 would dump iowa. I don't care much about iowa athletics, but would love to hear your reasoning UNIGuy4Cy as to why the big 10 is so anxious to dump them.

If Missouri AND Nebraska leave for the big10 it is an end-game for ISU at the BCS level. We will be on an island in the BigXII and there will be no loyalties left in the BigXII except to self preservation and $$. The confence could disband and reform without us. Who is going to stick up for us other than ourselves? KSU, OSU??? at the risk of being out themselves? If we hook up with the MWC or MAC or go independent we are equally screwed as we will be dwarfed revenue-wise to the growing super power conferences. Our only 2 hopes are that the Big10 takes us (won't happen) or that the BigXII stays intact in the northern states (also seemingly less likely by the day). I think ISU's best friend right now is Notre Dame. If the BigTen gets them they may be pacified. Otherwise I see only trouble and more trouble ahead for ISU.

I agree w/ this as unfortunate as it is. We are in a waiting game. I've heard rumors and rumblings that Iowa wouldn't mind taking us to the big 10 b/c it would free up a non conference game. However, that will not happen. If Mizzou or Neb head to the big 10 we are going to be left out. I am no fan of the big 12 commish for letting it get this far, but it is just a wait and hope game now.

I wonder what the chances would be of this new organization getting granted non-profit status like the NCAA has. The US Congress has been grilling the NCAA for the past decade about the NCAA's non-profit status in light of the big TV deals and huge coaching salaries in FB and MBB. Without non-profit status, a sizable chunk of that revenue gets shaved right off the top for taxes.

I know CU has always had it bad for the Pac-10 because they feel they have some sort of cosmic connection with Cali but why wouldn't the Pac-10 go after Utah and BYU first? Both schools are geographically closer to the Pac-10 schools and follow the same pattern as the rest of the Pac-10 schools (two in each state for natural rivalries - of course 4 in Cali).
