If the MWC expanded would you be in favor of ISU jumping ship?
With all the talk of everyone leaving the Big 12, would you be in favor of joining the Moutain West Conference if they expanded before the Big 12 could react? The conference has continued to grow and is not lacking any worse TV contract than the Big 12 at this point, I think almost every game is broadcasted (FSN, MTN) and we would be right up there with Utah and BYU for importance within the conference, ie on ESPN and ABC when available. I dont see a drop from what the crappy Big 12 is now.

I'd much rather see how everything plays out. We still don't know yet what is going to happen or who may be joining the Big 12.

If they've got AQ status, theyre definitely worth looking at.

Re: If the MWC expanded would you be in favor of ISU jumping ship?
I don't think that there is any way that Iowa State would preemptively jump to another conference without knowing definitively that they're going to be left out in the cold by the likely scenario that is unfolding. -
Re: If the MWC expanded would you be in favor of ISU jumping ship?
There are only 3 options to consider...
1. Stay in the Big 12
2. Go to the Big 10 (unlikely).
3. Doomsday. Cyclone Fanatic shuts down.
I don't care if MWC had an AQ. We have absolutely no history with any of those teams and there is not even a regional draw either.
The campaign starts now. November 6, 2012. -
Re: If the MWC expanded would you be in favor of ISU jumping ship?
I'm not in favor of leaving for any non-BCS conference. In the unlikely (at least in my opinion event) that the Big 12 is cannibalized and ISU has to find somewhere non-BCS to go it would be a good option. Looking at it competitively is slippery, while we would be competitive talent wise now, once our recruiting territories change (which they would) we likely would not be able to stay competitive with the top of the conference.

I think if all this crazy talk of Nebraska, Missouri, Texas, and Texas A&M all leaving were to actually happen, then the Mountain West could actually be a pretty good conference if you took the remains of the Big 12 and added the best of the MWC. As long as it had AQ status I think it could be a great conference for Iowa State. Think about those teams, only Oklahoma would scare me on a yearly basis.

Re: If the MWC expanded would you be in favor of ISU jumping ship?
Let's not get crazy yet.
Let's not forget, ISU, KU, K-State, OSU, OU, and Nebraska all have strong traditional ties. The school are all similar and the regional proximity can't be ignored. This, in addition to CU & Mizzou, but I left them out due to the speculations.
At the very least, the group of ISU, KSU, KU, and OSU will stick together and be picked up together somewhere in doomsday scenarios.

Re: If the MWC expanded would you be in favor of ISU jumping ship?
The AQ thing is big but TV is bigger. If they could snag themselves a network with expansion then we should take a good hard look. Look at the revenue the B10 network is generating for B10 schools. Purdue and Indiana have more tv revenue than Notre Dame!
The B12 has never looked out for their member schools as far as tv is concerned and they may get cherry picked as a result. If something is coming down the pike, we need to be proactive and watch out for ourselves. Nobody else is going to.

Re: If the MWC expanded would you be in favor of ISU jumping ship?
Kind of have to at this point don't we?
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. -

We don't have mountains in Iowa, that's a deal breaker.
