I can't remember the exact year - it was somewhere around '79 - '81. Donnie Duncan was the coach. The Cyclones, ranked #6 nationally at the time, hosted the Oklahoma Sooners. When the team took the field, THAT was the loudest moment I can ever remember at JTS.
I am going with 1981 (maybe 82) the first Iowa vs ISU football game at now Jack Trice Stadium. Iowa had just beat Neb and UCLA in non Conference and went on to go to the Rose Bowl. And our CLones lead by Crutchfield, Quinn at QB and giffords booting field goals we rolled the 23-12. Karl Nelson and Bruce Reimers were on that team, and the first play from scrimmage they cleared our the left side and Crutch went about 40yards almost scored and would have if he wasn't so slow. I believe Bobby Stoops actually drug him down from behind.
Now That was LOUD and for good reason....I know an dIowa fan was depants in that game to and his black and gold overalls went over the back of the stadium.
