Many Honey Bee farmers who were told that they would be residents of the State of Iowa actually ended up in Missouri without their knowledge thanks to the 'new incorrect' state line. Missouri sent tax collectors up to collect and the farmers refused to pay since they assumed they were Iowa residents. Both states sent militias to the border to protect their interests.
Someone can chime in and correct me if any of that is not true. It's what I remember from history class many many moons ago. Since we're on Iowa/Missouri history;
Wasn't there a Civil War skirmish in SE Iowa?

Actually, from Missouri's point of view (at least at the time), Iowa's southern-most tier of counties belong to them. From Missouri's interpretation of the survey, that surveying point shouldn't be where the Des Moines River flows into the Mississippi, but further north, near either Ft Madison or even Burlington (where one of those rivers flow into the Mississippi).

Actually, Ft Armstrong (which now goes by the Rock Island Arsenal, an island in the middle of the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities) was a Union base with a prison camp for Confederate prisoners. The Confederate cemetery still exists.

I honestly do not see this rivalry being upheld, not many people know about it, and it is not like we hate Mizzou, I think we hate Nebraska more than Mizzou and we dont have a "rivalry" with them if, keyword rivalry.

Re: Telephone Trophy?
The telephone trophy is the traveling trophy equivalent to greeting cards and Grandparents Day...a contrived trophy for no other purpose but to get us excited about a game that hasn't been relevant in 50 years, if it ever was. Good riddance.

Someone can chime in and correct me if any of that is not true. It's what I remember from history class many many moons ago. The dispute was created when a surveyor hired by the Missouri State Government who put the state line father north and a Federal surveyor, named Sullivan, re-established the line (AKA the Sullivan Line) to its current position. The whole ruse was a land grab by Missouri at our expense. The disputed starting point was where the "Des Moines Rapids" was actually located; either on the Mississippi River near Keokuk, or upstream on the Des Moines River near Keosauqua. The current line was a compromise between the two locations.

That and the fact that Shelbyville (Missouri) also wanted the right to marry their cousins.
