This is what gets me through the long summer...highlights of SJ breaking ankles.

When I'm bored and it feels like football won't get here for...ever...I watch highlights of Shontrelle Johnson to sustain me. WOW! is all I can say. Just wow!

The kid is not just good. He's not just an ankle breaker. He's not just absolutely determined to get every inch on every run. He doesn't simply have Barry Sanders-like balance.

The kid is absolutely ridiculous. And yes, I meant that in a VERY good way.

    Videos - Rivals.com

This is why I'm not worried in the least about running back depth. This kid is going to be A Rob's backup. Period. Woody will still be the change of pace, short yardage bulldog guy...but when A Rob just needs a breather or has a minor ding, Shontrelle IS going to be the guy. I've been watching these highlight tapes since the early days of Rivals...and a tape is a tape, and generally you can only tell so much...but DAMN, that kid is special and its crystal clear after about 3 highlight runs.

So suddenly, in my opinion, we are a solid 2 deep at RB with a great change of pace guy in Woody. And that's not too shabby. And yes, that puts too much pressure on the kid. Yes, its not right to expect that much of a freshman. Yes, its a big step up from high school to Big 12 ball. And yes, in this case I think none of that matters...barring serious injury, a bad attitude, or a mental state entirely incapable of learning the plays...this kid walks onto campus as A Rob's backup.

I can't wait to see him get some playing time next year. Any experience he can get will be invaluable as I see him as starter in 1 year.

Sorry...didn't realize it was pay site stuff. Just go to youtube and type in Shontrelle Johnson...and prepare to be impressed.

This kid is going to be AMAZING. I am really surprised hes only a 3 star. We got a very big steal on this kid.

I'm not saying SHontrelle won't be our second best back, but he will have to catch on very fast to take over James White as Arobs replacement. He ran in a different system. the coaches have said it is crucial that the RBs understand the system very well. James White will have a big jump on him that in that aspect. Again, not saying Shontrelle isn't our second best runner, however I don't know that he will take over James White.
    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

agreed. but that is one of my fav plays in the highlight. his catch out of the backfield is PHENOMENAL. going forward with our type of offense in the future we will always need RB's with hands like that.

That's the one that really impressed me. With our offense, a back who can catch and make moves like that will be deadly.

SJ is a great athlete. Strong, fast, agile. But the one thing that concerned me about the highlight video posted here (I know it's not his full season) is that they ran to their left side every time except once. I would be more happy if we had their left tackle. He's a big boy that can move and block people. Anyone know where he is going?
