the problem with WP was that he couldn't manage the juco degree to get into a four year school, let alone staying at one once he got there, despite whatever support might have become available. And that was several years ago, so...
Newberry, whether he winds up at DE, DT or OT, would be an excellent get.

Those examples are not a reason to stop going after highly rated players. I believe the Burnham's have connections to these guys.
I'd take offense to calling Fischer "serviceable". Why Barney Cotton put our biggest, slowest OL at LT is beyond me. Paul Fischer was too slow to block anyone off the edge. Bret Meyer got hit so much that he was never the same after that season. That OL was by far worst I've ever seen at ISU. Deace calls them the "5 Blocks of Styrofoam" and he's not far off. That's 5 Seniors who basically let Meyer get killed. They were built for a power run game, but ISU didn't have the backfield talent to run the ball or the quickness to reach the second level in the running game.
Honestly, I'd put a lot of blame for McCarney getting fired on the play of that OL. Paul Fischer is probably a nice guy and all, but he should NOT have been playing LT in a passing offense. He should have been either inside at guard or on the bench. The fact that McCarney didn't force Cotton to put someone like Seth Zehr at LT is reason #1 why he needed to be fired. TOO much trust in assistants who were not competent.

Honest question...do you really believe that recruits read these boards? Most of them actually know better than to come reading the crap that a lot of people post on here. Dont get me wrong, there are some that do, TheCity is a prime example of a recruit or family member who comes on here. However, I would be willing to bet that TheCity came on here to update everyone on Money's status and bits like that. I doubt he came on to read through threads like most of us do every day.
Its almost like some of you think this is what the standard procedure is during the recruiting process:
1. Talk to Coach Rhoads on the phone
2. Make visit to campus/go to a game/meet the other players and coaches
3. Read CycloneFanatic to see what all of the fans think I should do
4. Look at all of my other options to decide what is best for me
5. Repeat step 3 to see what others think is best for me
6. Decide where I should go, based on step 3

I hope not. My guess is that we'll see very few commits until the conference thing shakes out. They may really like ISU but hold off until ISU knows where it will land.

Did I just step out of a Delorean?

Sure, you can joke about it...like making it seem I think all of our recruits make their decisions based on CF. But the truth is I would bet nearly every single one of our recruits visit this board. How much, I'm sure differs, but kids these days spend tons of time online and if a thread about you (the recruit) pops up on the board of the team recruiting you, you can bet they read every post.
So the point being, just remember that when you (CF posters) bag on ISU.

You really do believe this? You really believe that part of a recruits process of deciding where they go, is to check out the message boards?

He wouldn't even be close to being the only one to think that.
we've had this debate on CF many times.

Wow...I must have missed this one. That is incredible. Its almost like those who believe the moon landing was a hoax or that an airplane wouldnt take off from a treadmill. In all honesty, that truly baffles me that people believe that recruits actually take the time to crawl through message boards or that their decisions are partially based on what people say on message boards. Incredible.

I will say that if a recruit googled himself and the top result was a CF thread where posters were unanimously bashing him, then yeah, that would be negative, but I've never seen a thread like that.
As far as conference realignment goes.. if a recruit takes a message board poster's opinions on it as a fact that ISU is dead in the water, then clearly the kid is an idiot anyway.. good luck flunking out of college wherever you go.

and if we've had the argument many times for the "three seconds or so" i've been here.... multiply that out for the lifetime of CF and you've got a ton of debates about the subject.

I dont think I've seen this anywhere. Maybe in the Royce White thread, but to be honest, a kid like that doesnt have time to research himself on internet message boards. From first hand experience, recruits generally stay away from the message boards. Most are pretty smart and know to let their play on the field speak for itself. Kids pick their schools based on coaches, playing time, the overall feel of the school, academics. The absolute last thing a kid would look at to make his decision is an internet message board.

My point exactly. The chances of a thread where everyone is ripping on the kid is slim to none. a small minority may be detractors, but that's pretty much normal for all college athletes.
