Re: Take a look at the Big Twelve Conference (circa 2014). Kinda like it!
This wouldn't be such a bad thing. The Mountain West Conference does have a television network - the mtn, so that's a big plus.
I have a hard time believing that the Pac 10 would favor Baylor over Colorado for the simple reason that if Colorado goes to the Pac 10 then they get the Denver area television markets. Denver over Waco? No brainer.
Re: Take a look at the Big Twelve Conference (circa 2014). Kinda like it!
Ok, here is how I think the dominoes could fall. Lets hope none of this happens.
Pac10 + Texas, A&M, Tech, Oklahoma, Okie St, and Baylor (CU gets screwed) = 16
Big Ten + Nebraska, Missouri, ND, Rutgers, & Pitt (or other Big East School) = 16
SEC + Clemson, GT, Florida State, & Miami = 16
ACC + UConn, Syracuse, W Virginia, & South Florida = 12
I have a hard time believing that the ACC would add 8 teams after loosing 4 to the SEC. This could allow the Big 12 to reform as:
MIDWEST
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
Cincinatti
Louisville
Memphis
WEST
Houston
TCU
Colorado (or Baylor depending on who goes to the Pac10)
Utah
BYU
Boise State

Don't love it, but it could be worse. By the way, do you think JP is having backroom discussions with KU and KState about a) their plans and b) conference buildling?

I have to believe that JP is talking to KU & KSU...they are the closest things we have to friends right now.

I wish there was a more of an effort for the old big 8 schools to remain together. What would be ideal to me is that the big 8 tells the texas schools to do what they want and then goes ahead and adds Boise St., BYU, Utah, Memphis, TCU and Houston. making a division alignment like this:
East: ISU, Memphis, Missouri, Nebaska, Kansas, Kansas St., Houston
West: OU, OSU, TCU, CU, Boise, Utah, BYU
The old big 8 can quit worrying about texas running their lives, texas can leave for more money, nobody gets left out in the street.

That is why ESPN and others must be talking big tim,e behind the scenes. Set up conferences to meet the needs of the network deal.
If you are slicing and dealing, the netwroks should have a say.
What will be funny is when the playoffs and megaconferences are set (last source of new "free bucks"), then where will the new "taxes" come from to support the garaguntuan sports programs?
Re: Take a look at the Big Twelve Conference (circa 2014). Kinda like it!
If the all the dominos fall; I think we can count out Nebraska, Missouri, & Colorado. With just the Kansas teams & Iowa State left, I'd be willing to bet the Big 12 South would be tempted to secede and reform something like the SWC, taking away TCU as an option. If the Pac 10 takes Colorado, they'll take Utah as well. Here's the best of the rest:
ISU
KSU
KANSAS
BOISE STATE
BYU
COLORADO STATE
WYOMING
AIR FORCE
It's not a lot, but we'd still have the Salt Lake City, Denver, & Kansas City television markets...

Colorado is not going anywhere.

The thing is that if the remaining 4 schools "stick" with the Big 12, they get all the exit money. Use it to invest in a TV network.
2nd, though Houston doesn't draw squat it gets your foot in the door further with recruits.
Re: Take a look at the Big Twelve Conference (circa 2014). Kinda like it!
2 problems
The Buffs are not going to the Pac 10.
The Texas teams going to the Pac 10 are Texas, TT, TaM, and Baylor. PLus
Okie and Okie St.
I agree on some of the teamsmentioned above, the problem is no tv Markets and TV $$$$$.
good things are
Iowa State is a Land Grant University, big time in Agriculture, I know Ag is not what it used to be.2 nd the National Diesease Lab is a Federal place and is Big time. National Security issues tied to livestock and agriculture comes to Ames.
Grassley is a player here, he is on the commitee that hands out the money. Appropriations I think is what it is called.
The Big Ten and ISU, might be good for ISU in the long term, BUT WHY would it happen.

I have to admit...I really kinda like how that sets up. Covers a big region with some very nice population centers...Kansas City/Denver-Front Range/Dallas/Las Vegas/Salt Lake City/San Diego/Cincinnati/Louisville. I think as a football conference its very competetive with the other major conferences...and in basketball it would be elite from the start. Some outstanding "traditional" basketball programs in schools like Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Cincinnati, UNLV, BYU and Utah. It seems very likely this new Big 12 would keep its BCS status...which is CRITICAL. So while this is a tough situation for ISU right now, it could come out of things in pretty darn good shape if this is close to the final configuration.
New Mexico is out vs. leaving Wyoming in?? Doesn't make any sense if you look at Demographics. One Million souls in Albuquerque area VS Wyoming market of not many! By the way New Mexico won the MWC Basketball title again under that Suckeye reject Alfraud...................
