Awesome!
Who remembers who had the toughest schedule in the country last year? Nobody. Who remembers teams that went to bowl games? Everybody. Never should schedule like this...ever

I know the conference schedule can be tough to manipulate...but no way should ISU schedule itself the toughest schedule in the nation.

What? I'm confused. Why are we playing these Big 12 teams next year? I thought everything was ending. I'm sure all of this will be adjusted when the expansion talk is finalized. Wait a minute, that's right, we will be playing in the Big 12 next year.

Re: Phil Steele - ISU the nation's toughest schedule
I'm pretty sure when the schedule was made that it wasn;t anticipated to be as tough as it is now. don't they schedule like 5 years out or something like that? did we really think Utah would be a top 25, Iowa top 10, and NIU would be coming off a bowl game?
it's definitely tough, but if we can do well with a schedule like this we will be huge for our program. Imagine if we competed for the north with this schedule?

Re: Phil Steele - ISU the nation's toughest schedule
As we should be. Our schedule is brutal top to bottom, but I'm certain that CPR and the guys will be licking their chops at getting at some of these elites. I just hope it doesn't turn out like 2002 where the schedule beat our spirits week after week. If we can win the "winnable" games and have very solid showings in the Iowa, Utah, Texas and Oklahoma games then our spirits should be high going into next season.
If we get beaten badly by Iowa, or Utah, or both, then our season could be a long long ride. This team/staff doesn't seem like the type to roll over and take an assbeating, but there is only so much a group of guys can take.

These schedules are made years in advance. The Big 12 schedule is what it is. The Iowa game is what it is (although late in the Fry era and early in the Ferentz era, would you have thought of Iowa as a national player?). One could argue that UNI would have been seen as a "sure win" a number of years ago, but who would have thought that Farley would bring their program to the level he has? And eight or ten years ago, who would have seen Utah as a major program? Even when you look at a Northern Illinois, I'm sure at the time, scheduling a MAC team like them didn't see too risky.
Unfortunately for Iowa State, things sometimes change in college football.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr -

Sure this schedule is brutal but just think of the heads we can turn if things get rolling really well for PR and crew!

In a somewhat related note, Phil Steele was named the College Football magazine editor with the most "Porn-like" name.
