ISU football student athletes
I don't know if you all knew this but IIRC Jamie stated at the Sioux City tour stop that ISU's GPA was at the top of the B12.
It's easy to be cynical now about college athletics but it was nice to hear that at ISU it is still about student athletes. The thought of this caused me to step back and examine just how sad major college football is becoming. The Big Ten selling out to an inferior university in UNL, a great academic institution like USC allowing their football program to be so dirty, UCLA hiring a scumbag like Skippy Nueheisel, the Pac 10 considering adding a school like Texas Tech that should not be mentioned in the same breath as Stanford or Cal...
Integrity isn't worth any money but at least we've got it.
RIP Janice

Re: ISU football student athletes

This sign probably has a lot to do with the situation we are in right now.

Re: ISU football student athletes
I agree. The NCAA says they care about the student in student/athlete, yet their actions say otherwise. The University Presidents are in reality the NCAA so until they really start to care about the academic side of things, nothing will change. Several are turning a blind eye towards academics in order to embrace the athletic money. Very sad.

No matter what happens, ISU is still a great university with quite proud alumni.

If you can't win with honor you have no business calling yourself a winner.

I stand right next to it (in the band) and never once have I thought about what it means. I'm proud that we haven't sold out. I'm proud that our players don't, generally, get arrested. I'm proud that we're eliminating state funds in our athletics budget. I'm proud that academics are valued.
For the first time in weeks, I feel like we're going to be fine one way or another. It won't be easy, but as fans it's critical that we just stay excited and weather this as best we can.
We can make a splash next year, and there's no reason we can't continue to make waves. We have some challenges to face, but we've come this far without cheating and without selling out. If we, as a fan base, continue to value what is important, remain energized, stay vocal and keep buying/donating things will continue to improve.
The conference matters, but not as much as we do. We'll have to work harder. Cheer harder. Tell our story more. We have a hell of an AD, coaches who care, and the best fans in the nation. Screw the Big 10.

Re: ISU football student athletes
Academics dont matter. Playing inside the rules dont matter. Its all about the money. If the NCAA were serious about rules and academics they would do more to punish those that dont live up to their standards.

They do matter. College athletics is not life. The sooner we realize that, the better. I think we can all be proud of the institution that is Iowa State University. Glad to see CPR has these boys' heads on straight.
For "I", for "S", forever!
For Iowa State all the way.
Let's go! To show them what the gang's all here for,
Go! To show them how the Cyclones cheer.
For "I", for "S", forever!
For Iowa State do it right!
It's time to climb up on the vict'ry wagon,
Fight! Iowa State, Fight! Fight! -
Re: ISU football student athletes
Well... not be to negative, but the NCAA APRs were just released and ours (926) was in the 20-30th percentile for football. 1st-10th percentile for all sports. Those below 925 get scholarships taken away, and we almost did. I want to say that Colorado was the only Big 12 school that had that happen.

I guess I read his post as he meant in the world of the NCAA academics don't matter. Most of us would agree that in our (real) world they do and we are proud of the thought that we need to be turning out men and women who are scholars first and not just in name only.

Yes that is what I meant. The NCAA says one thing but their actions dont support what they say.
