Re: Big 12 fallout
I agree, i think ISU would bring a lot of interesting things to the Big 10....Wrestling - top5 program, Womens bb top 20 program, mens bb - history, but, looking to rebound, mens fb - equal to half the big ten now (Indiana, illinois, northwestern, minnesota, purdue), and womens vb top 25 team.
Aside for the recent success of our various sports, geographically, it makes a ton of logic....
Plus, these mega conferences to me would still want their major players to be major players record wise, you cannot load up on 16 super star teams because they will simply beat each other up.
The new NEC - North Eastern Conference West
Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern, Missouri East
Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan St, Purdue, Pitt, Rutgers, Indiana

I have a ton of friends that live in Ames and I always enjoy going there on game day. The only bad time i had was when ISU beat Iowa like 23-3 or something like that. Going to the bars that night was a little rough but i made it home safe. It was funny because most of the Clone fans at my buddies house kept saying how ISU had no chance and they were pretty worried about losing. I kept telling them that it is the best sport in the world because anything can happen. By the end of that day my friends had all the confidence in the world. In a way i was happy for them cause they had something to cheer about.
Anyways for me its a great rivalry and i want that to continue. Hope it works out well for ISU.

Honestly, I think it would make sense for the Big10 to go after an un-spectacular but solid school like ISU. We would be similar to Northwestern in that we would not be expected to win conference championships, but we bring something to the table and are a good geographic fit. We would provide natural rivalries for NU, Iowa, Mizzou, and Minnesota and our athletic department would continue to improve with all of the Big16 dollars.
If the Big10 continues to try and only bring in "heavy hitters", they will run into a problem down the road where everyone beats each other up and there is no chance for two BCS (or whatever it is by that point) teams or National championship hopes.
Ohio State has to have some teams to beat up on in conference!
I am hoping that JP is using up all of the athletic departments phone minutes chatting up his Big10 contacts and setting us up a sweetheart deal. One can only hope.
