Essentially how I feel as well. Assuming the 10 remaining teams stick around and we can add 2 or more quality teams.
I'd prefer the MWC but I don't think ISU can walk away from 17 million.
Plus cashing the checks from Nebraska and Colorado will be nice.
I would rather have the remaining 10 teams in the Big 12 stay together and add 2 more (Houston & Tulane would add TV sets). Then move Oklahoma and Okie St to the "North". This would rebalance the divisions and allow the original Big 8 schools (minus Nebraska and Colorado) to be in the same division.
Adding Air Force, Memphis, Louisville, Colorado State would would work as well, but not add the sets Houston would. Tulane was more to include New Orleans, but Memphis might add as many TV sets.
Link to all the Div 1 football schools on a map:
For now I would like to stay at ten. I would only like this if we could play OU and Texas in November.
1. Save the Big 12
2. Absorb the MWC into a new revised BIg 12
I would like to keep the Big 12 in tact. Adding 2 quality teams would be good. I honestly don't see us being super competitive in the Big East. MWC would allow us to be a lot more competitive, but lose BCS bid.
If we can get into the Big East with a 12 team FB conference and a 20 teaam BB conference with its own network I would take that.
Save Big XII!!!!!! This solution would get us more $$$ than anything else. I'd say a combination with the MWC or Big East would be number 2.
I still really like the idea of going into the Big East.
I'm going to go against popular opinion here -
(this is all from a purely athletic perspective)
I say that the BigXII should be reconstituted with teams from the MWC and this is why.
ISU will earn more money by sticking with the BigXII (10) but how long is the conference going to last? Three years? Five?...
If we pick up the MWC teams, I think ISU would have a better shot at becoming more of a force athletically. The budget gap in the BIGXII is huge, something ISU will never overcome, so why not create a conference where the teams are more finacially and athletically matched. This will allow more even competition and allow ISU a chance at budding into a nationally respected football program.
I'd rather take the more consistent, methodical, tortoise-like approach to building our national profile than the wham-bam, thank you Texas approach that the 'new' BigXII would offer.
Save big 12. clearly It is abetter contract. If not do a quick synopsis to see marketability of adding teams. Examples: tcu, Utah, byu, Memphis, Boise, Houston, maybe smu, June jones is there coach now, I have a hunch he could make smu something. And without a doubt get a feel for Louisville and cincinatti. At the same time check into other options, clearly there could be a better fit. 8 plus four is 12. 10 plus 10 is 20. Garden, meadowlands, Tampa, Heinz field. The beast. Find out which is the best option, work as a group with the remaing schools schools and do what's best for us financially.
I say **** Texas.
If the Big 12 could add Cincy, Louisville, Boise St and either BYU or Colorado St, it could work. Things need to change in the conference goes though as far as balance of power. If Texas does not shape up, they need to ship out.
Joining the Big East is 1a though. If Rutgers and WV can picked up by someone else, that is ok. There would be other teams that could join including Memphis and rumor has it that Villanova is going to Div 1 or could in a couple of years.
Next choice is MWC with the remaining North teams, maybe Baylor.
ISU going to a conference adds how many TV sets? I assume most cable providers in the state would pick up a network channel that included ISU. ISU brings the exact same thing to a conference that Iowa does as far as TV sets. Does not matter the support, just how many subscribers there are. Case in point, Rutgers. ISU gets much better support and has a better following but more people live in the Rutgers area.
The people here are comparing BeeBe's estimated B12 TV $$$ after the contracts are renegotiated and assuming that MTW contracts are not. The bar on TV Revenue was raised with the SEC TV deal .... that's how the B12 can lose Nebby and Colo and then get a BETTER TV deal (and still have room for an all texas network). A new/renegioated TV deal with the MWC will be much better than what they have right now. I'm thinking something like:
B12 -> 17
BE -> 15
MWC -> 8-11
So the MWC would be approximately what we have today and perhaps a little bit more, all for the chance of keeping our closest rivals (MU,KU, KSU) and competing in a conference were we a chance to succeed year in and year out.
Anyway, my vote would be for a New Big East conference but since I don't think that will happen I will cast my vote for a merger with the MWC. I don't want any part of UT after all this.
