Who likes watching ISU on TV?
Because everybody who says that we should get out of the Big 12 and join the MWC isn't seeing the fact that we won't ever be on TV. Same for the Big East. If this new TV option that Beebe threw out is legit, we would be insane not to take it. 17 mil a year? Sign me up! Keep a little tradition together? check. Easier travel? Yep.
People complain all they want about Texas but right now ISU needs Texas. Texas stays and our athletic program can keep going and hopefully building. Texas leaves and we are left looking and hoping to get picked up by somebody else....who won't be as attractive as the Big 12. The conference staying together is Iowa State's only good option at this point.
Go Big 12!

Go Big 12! If we can stay at 10, guarantee playing everyone each year and getting all our games on TV, I am very much on board for this scenario as opposed to how things looked a few days ago. Big East as the next option though. -
Re: Who likes watching ISU on TV?
Yep, you're right. No one ever gets to see Big East teams play on TV. Never, ever. Never ever.

Re: Who likes watching ISU on TV?
Absolutely the best scenario.

Go Big 12! Big East has an ESPN television contract and is likely forming their own network. The odds of ISU being on TV with the Big East are probably as good as if we stayed in the Big 12

Re: Who likes watching ISU on TV?
Not saying I don't want the Big 12 to stay together, but the Mountain West has a TV network, although I don't think they cover all games like the BTN does, and it's not very widely available. As for the Big East, don't they have a big deal with EPSN?

You are right. But really don't see how anyone thinks the Big East is a good fit. Traveling expenses would kill ISU. I really don't see it as an option

Once you're on a plane anyways, the travel thing diminishes a bit.

Traveling expenses would kill ISU. I really don't see it as an option I had thought this, too, but my husband pointed out that this isn't necessarily the case (and I have to agree after looking at it a little closer). DePaul is in Chicago, Marquette in Milwaukee. Louisville, Pitt, and Cincinatti are all closer than Texas. If KSU, KU, and Mizzou came with us, there'd be a pretty decent concentration of us in the midwest. It's also easier to get easily connecting flights to the East than to certain parts of the South, too.

Did I miss something? All of our games will be on TV with the new "Beebe Plan" if the 10 remaining Big XII teams stick together?

ISU to Big East
From a hoops standpoint it wouldn't be a bad thing with schools like Marquette and DePaul not too far away.
However, IMO things go beyond distance in establishing a conference. I just don't see really strong rivalries ever being created with UCONN, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, WV, S Florida, Louisville and Cincinnati. It's the second best option after the current Big 12 members, but its a distant second.
I also gotta believe at some point the ACC is going to take a run at those schools and the markets they represent- CT, NY City, PA, Orlando, Ohio.

Re: Who likes watching ISU on TV?
The travel distances between the Big East and MWC campuses are a wash.
In either case, part of our schedule would likely still be against KU, K-State and Mizzou.
To answer the OP... I like watching ISU on TV. -
