When their contract comes up I could see it being renewed at a much smaller length but more than likely it will happen and they will get more $$$ to do so........not like they need it. Their endowment is around 7 billion give or take.
I don't know if NBC will be willing to pay much more for the Notre Dame contract, per this NY Times article...

If Kelly is slow to rebuild the team, and NBC doesn't provide a big enough deal, ND could be looking to other avenues to increase their revenue. The Big 12 is the only conference that would allow them to have a share of conference money and keep their own network money to themselves.
Re: Door now open for Notre Dame...
And then who would the 12th team be?
Re: Door now open for Notre Dame...
They never came out and said that NBC was definitely making money. Danced around it a little.

If ND would bring to the tabel the package UT does we would benefit greatly. But it'll never ever happen...............I don't think?

USC? Michigan? I doubt it!:biglaugh:
Re: Door now open for Notre Dame...
Add them and Louisville to the north and were back to being one of the top football conferences in the league. Plus, image how much money the ND fan base and the city of Louisville would bring in.
$ $

Notre Dame has turned the Big Ten down several times before. If ND had a grasp on the present, they'd realize that joining a conference is in their best interest. Who cares if it's not a 12-team conference? When you're about to get left behind like ND will be eventually, you can't be too choosy about which conference to join, at least not based on how many members are in it.
Re: Door now open for Notre Dame...
Notre Dame and the big ten have quite a bit of animosity towards each other. It may be a perfect fit for them, but if they could find a better deal somewhere else, I think they would do it to screw the big 10. So if the Big East gets pilfered, it wouldn't surprise me to see ND come to the Big 12.

I could see that as well. ISU fans better hope that doesn't happen, because Notre Dame is another school that wants special treatment, and a bigger slice of the pie. And they are a lot like Texas: they've got the weight to throw around in order to get what they want.
Re: Door now open for Notre Dame...
I think ND will stay independent, but if they came to the Big 12, i would be interested to see how Texas and ND got along.
Re: Door now open for Notre Dame...
Hd wants to stay independant. They will, so long as They can schedule games. They're still a huge draw and one of the seasons best weekends if they're on you team's schedule. Example-can you imagine how pumped everyone in Iowa would be if they had a game at ISU? The tailgating? The fight for tickets? It's that way in every town they visit.
Years ago Fielding Yost of Michigan tried to have the Big !0 boycott ND. The result was that Rockne had to schedule nationally. Turned out great as ND developed a national fanbase. Thanks Michigan!
They won't have that alternative in the future of "superconferences" if they can't get games.
Nonetheless, If they have a couple good years, they're right back on top when BCS negotiations occur and NBC renegotiates.
As far as not being able to schedule games, I don't think any AD would turn down the chance for a Home-and-Home with ND.
Re: Door now open for Notre Dame...
If I remember correctly, JP was pretty adamant yesterday that it's 10 teams. Period.
