Notre Dame has said they will only consider a 12 total team conference. The Big 12 is the only major with 10. ND could bring their biggest rival with them to the North Division, and keep their TV deal. With Texas-OK in the South and ND in the North, you have the ultimate 12 team conference.

Not saying this isn't true, but where did you hear they would consider a 12 team conference? If they were to do so, wouldn't joining the Big 10 before Nebraska joined have made the most sense?

I don't think ND joins anything. As long as the Big East is alive they have a home for everything but football. If the Big East disappears it's a different story, they'd be forced to join something for the sake of basketball and the non-revenue sports. But if the conference realignment turns out to end with a whimper instead of a wail, which it looks like it will, ND will probably be just as happy staying independent. I think their NBC deal runs through 2015.

You have to admit, any leverage the Big 10 had on ND is now gone. And they did say never to a 16 team network.

The big 12(10) has a few years to court ND. When NBC comes around and says we are losing $ on you, we need to cut back our contract, who knows maybe they will listen.

The problem with this is that NBC is not losing money on ND. Matter of fact besides the tonight show it is one of their most dependable time slots for ratings. Notre Dame merchandise sales is in the top 5 annually. Someone is buying all that stuff and more than likely they are watching the games too. When their contract comes up I could see it being renewed at a much smaller length but more than likely it will happen and they will get more $$$ to do so........not like they need it. Their endowment is around 7 billion give or take.

This just slays me. Their fans must be alot like ISU fans. Buy merch, tickets, and such even when your team is swirling the drain. Well, swirling the drain compared to their storied past anyway.
