He went from "nobody" to all-Big 12 based on hard work and determination, even with limited physical gifts. I like the kid that committed today, and the 2011 Iowa class has quite a few offer worthy guys. But its ridiculous to act like Jesse deserved a scholarship coming out of high school. He had to grow up a bit after walking on at ISU.

It's funny. I've read this whole thread and can't find where one poster is acting like Jesse deserved a scholarship coming out of high school.
The surest way to win any argument: pretend everyone is saying something ridiculous, then come in, guns ablazing, and take the easiest shot of your life.

Re: Who committed today? Someone verballed!
I said this when our first guy verbalized his commitment...anybody the staff is offering this early in the summer has talent. Period. Frankly, I'm pumped we identified two Iowa kids this early as having Big 12 talent and we've got commitments from both. Very good news!

So many possibilities with this kid
I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU
Or so I have read. -

I like the idea of him at DE. Throw 35-45 Lbs. on him and have him rush-end it.
NHL teams need to be added to the favorite teams section. -

Hopefully this kid develops like Knott - both lifelong Hawk fans that were offered by ISU and not Iowa, but become starter material in two quick years.
Point of Clarification, Jake was not a lifelong EIU fan, he and his family moved here when he was in J.H. His sister was good friends with my daughter. She is going to school at EIU, but the family did not have Iowa connections.

Obviously, he hasn't played a down yet, but physically, he'd be similar.

Okay, instead of Jesse Smith, why not use Lane Danielsen as a comparison? Iowa boy, small town Iowa, not offered a scholarship out of high school.
