Is it safe to say Shontrelle will be ARobs backup? Or who else do we have fighting for the position? I havent heard much on the issue other then that we were going to try and more dual back offense.

Just to name a few. I hope that it is an open competition that is set up to get the best player on the field. If it takes Shontrelle a year to get acclimated to Div. 1 football and college, I hope that they don't push him into the #2 role just because they think that he will be the best in the future.
I want the best player now playing.
Yes Shontrelle will be ARob's backup
Clearly the OP does not know anything about Bo Williams.
I agree, but Bo received very little playing time for Iowa State this past year and i know there was a lot of hype with him but seems like he has faded out.
Not sure if Bo will come back after his concussion..really tough luck for a great kid. We all tend to forget these are young guys that want to do well.
How can you say anyone will be his backup? I mean... maybe Bo Williams has a great fall/summer and he is. Maybe James White just SMOKES everyone during 2-a-days, Hell what happens when CPR gets excited about Jeff Woody? He's a freshman... let's not annoint him already. We're very good at doing that...
By the way I forgot my Bo Williams sarcasm pirate.
I have a feeling that if Shontrelle is the #2 going into this season it will be because the staff believes that getting him more reps will make him that much better in the future. He might not be the "best" backup overall, but his development potential may push him higher on the depth chart. He deffinitely has more to gain from the reps than Bo, I think.
Either way, I think we have some solid, if unproven, depth at the position right now. If Shontrelle ends up at #2, my guess is that whoever is at 3 and 4, will still get some respectable PT.
I am so pumped for football this year!
Is it safe to say if a true freshman who has never even taken part in an ISU FB practice will be 2nd string? Uh no, of course not.
I think its pretty safe to say SJ will have a good career here though. Whether he is able to beat out upperclassmen in his 1st season, who knows, practice will determine that.
Bo Williams has had a concussion problem. I believe he was withheld this past spring.
James White, Jeff Woody, and Beau Blankenship all had decent springs. Johnson will compete when he gets here.
Let the best man win. Unless Johnson is a clear cut #2, I would like to see him redshirted. I would rather not burn a year if he isn't figured to get a lot of playing time. But if he is that good, then he deserves to play if he wishes.
