Re: Iowa: Drop vs. Keep revisited
Not only do I want to keep the series, I want the game moved to Rivalry / Thanksgiving Weekend to solidify our rivalry.

Re: Iowa: Drop vs. Keep revisited
Miller hates this game and has wanted to get rid of it for years. All he is trying to do now is make it look like it will be ISU's fault when the game isnt played anymore.

Over the long haul, 6-6 every year without playing Iowa doesn't do a whole lot for me versus going 5-7 every year with playing Iowa. Not to mention the fact that the Iowa game is a 50/50 proposition anyway, so its not like its a guarenteed loss.
If we can't get to the point where a the Iowa game is not the tipping point between a bowl game and not, I don't think our coaching staff is doing what they should be doing.

Re: Iowa: Drop vs. Keep revisited
We've already lost arguably our #1-#2 game with Nebraska moving to the big 10. Now we are talking about losing the other biggest game? What am I missing? This game is GREAT for the state of Iowa and anybody who says it isn't doesn't know what they are talking about.
Winning a bowl game was great last year. Loved it. But would you like to make it a habit of barely making a bowl game each year with one additional easy win vs playing Iowa every year and earning a better bowl less times?
There were two circle games every year. Nebraska #1 Iowa #2. Losing both would suck.

Re: Iowa: Drop vs. Keep revisited
Drop - Anybody getting all wound up over playing the toughest schedule in the nation every year needs to come back down to reality. I love ISU football and I have all the faith in the world in CPR but Iowa is not going anywhere. They will continue to be a top tier Big 10 team and we simply cannot win that game anymore than at best every other year.
Not to mention, I have children who were not even alive the last time ISU scored a touchdown on Iowa. Seriously, it's been like 3-4 years since we even got into the endzone.
I'm sure I'll be labeled as defeatest but there is simply not enough good that can come of this game now. Drop it. Today.

I really don't think we have a choice but to (1) drop the series, (2) rotate the series (play twice in four years) (3) make our other two OOC games absolute cup-cakes. I'm in favor of (3).
If we drop Iowa with the assumption that we'll have 3 built-in wins instead of 2 ooc, then we'd better be going 3-0 nine years out of 10. Otherwise, it doesn't accomplish what it's intended to accomplish.
If Iowa comes off the schedule, we'd better remove Utah and UConn (or basically any home-and-home).
If ISU pulls out of the rivalry game, it'll never come back. And the payoff is still dependent on us going at least 4-5 in the Big 12 most seasons, and dominating in non-conference.

Re: Iowa: Drop vs. Keep revisited
Don't care. But if we do drop Iowa, it can't because we are afraid to play them. Sorry, that isn't acceptable. If, for some reason, there is a more financially lucrative team we can play (3 homes every year for instance), I'd say do it.

Keep. I would rather lose the game and not have ISU go to a bowl game than to give the appearance to the University of Iowa and their fans that we are afraid to play them. No way. Honor Before Victory. Keep.

Re: Iowa: Drop vs. Keep revisited
My wife, who is a U of I grad and comes from a long line of Hawkeye tradition, was dropping me off at the airport this AM. I had KXNO on the radio and heard JM talk about the game. As he was building up to the firey climax of his arguement, I told her, "listen, he is going to say the Iowa/ISU game should be discontinued." She said, "Why in the world would he want that - he's an Iowa grad?!?" I told her because he thinks it's a lose/lose proposition for Iowa, and no, he didn't even go to Iowa.
Right on cue, JM says the game should end.
My wife says, "He's kind of a jerk, isn't he?" I agreed with her. It was a solid start to the day.

I'm worried about ISU then what the U of I fans think.

Re: Iowa: Drop vs. Keep revisited
First one to flinch in this series is a *****. Wait, too late, Iowa already took their ball and went home once. But I don't want to be remembered as the one that wanted to end it for good and have it actually stick. Makes you a bigger *****.
Everyone who says that this game doesn't mean anything to them is either 1) full of **** or 2) has never lived in Iowa. This goes for fans of both sides.
