Just an impressive kid. You can build a program with guys like that walking on. A great walk-on program is critical for a school like ISU...if it can produce just one or two starters per season. These guys are almost always "character" players and that matters...it rubs off on everyone around them...surround that with some great speed and talent and you've got a formula for a good football program.

+1
Guys like O'Connell, Smith, and Neal are the epitome of ISU. The walk-on program should only get better under CPR too. Chizik didn't exactly encourage walk-ons.

Nice kid from Iowa City Regina - though he was good in HS, I certainly didn't forsee this! There are more than a few east-side Iowa City residents cheering for the Cyclones because of him...

I got a chance to talk to him when we were in Tempe for the game, he seems like a great kid. I would love to have a whole team full of guys willing to put that much effort into their football game. The guys that come to Ames knowing they are going to start are nice but having a kid that comes to town and has to prove himself every step of the way and ends up being a co-captain is a great story.
