    Hicks

Anybody know the status of Hicks? Do we pencil him in as the replacement for SH? With the loss of SH and now AA, starting to get worried about the attrition up front.

I hear he is good to go. Not sure if you can pencil him in yet but he'd be a strong contender to replace Scott Haughton.

I would expect to see Caspers getting a large amount of playing time with the #1's next month. The Oline does not scare me as much as the Dline, I honestly dont know where the coaches turn if there are injuries. Could Arnaud play DE?

    Re: Hicks

If we do not have enough depth at the d-line, does the team go to a 3 man front and add a 4th linebacker that is mainly put in the box for the purpose of stopping the run?

    Linebackers are in the box...

4-3 = 7 in the box. Maybe 8 if you pull in the strong safety.

Is Caspers still wanting to RS. I remember him saying that in an interview. I'm sure Haughton's dismisal changes things.

I thought the plan was to RS Caspers? With the loss of SH, that may have changed. I understand what your saying, but outside of Smith, I don't think any of the other guys has ever taken a snap in a D-1 football game.

    Re: Hicks

This was discussed a little on CR, but I think Lichtenburg might get moved inside this year. Burris and KO are going to start at tackle with Lichtenburg and Bykowski backing them up. Ideally you keep Lichtenburg and Bykowski at Tackle, but depth at guard is not great. Center is even worse. Plus, its pretty obvious that Lichtenburg is one of our better OL and you have to get your best guys on the field. Burris and Bykowski are way too long to be inside, but Lichtenburg assuming he up to around 280-290 pounds could play inside.

My know-nothing line ups (Assuming Hicks is back).
    2010
    LT - KO
    LG - Alvaraz
    C - Lamack
    RG - Hicks or Lichtenburg
    RT - Burris

    2011
LT - KO or Bykowski (depending on if KO goes pro)
    LG - Lichtenburg
    C - Tuftee
    RG - Hicks
    RT - Burris

Those are pretty solid lines with Caspers, Davis and Spears filling out the depth. I wont speculate on any newcomers, but Dika or Farniok might compete for the Center spot after a red-shirt year.

You don't put your starting QB at any other position on the field in college football, ever. QB is the most important position and if AA gets hurt, ISU is in trouble. See last season.

Caspers is going to redshirt. That's what he said when he signed ... that he wanted to redshirt and was promised he could.

dang, I should learn to read the whole thread before responding.
