I guess this shouldn't shock anybody. The Big 12 just released its media poll and Iowa State is 6th in the North.

Good. It'll light a fire up under our ***. I don't agree with it at all but that's fine.

Here is what I don't get, what did we lose off our bowl winning team that would make us any worse than last year? What did Colorado gain that would make them any better?

Compare the schedules. Just because we are picked to finish behind someone doesn't mean you are worse than them.

As far as conference schedule goes though, we dont change all that much. We trade a tamu blowout for texas, an osu blowout for OU... only real change from the south is TTU instead of Baylor. Aside from that, a couple of the losses from KU and KSU last year are very winnable this year.

Jesse Smith and 4 others from the front 7 on Defense. Not saying that we won't be better, but the DL and LBs are the major ?s going into the season.

    edited for stupidity.

Didn't realize North and South points weren't comparable.

There is not a lot of difference CU, KU, KSU, MU and ISU in terms of ability. NU is the only team in the North that really looks like they are above the rest. It will be an interesting season, and ISU could do okay if they can avoid the injury to key players that they had last year.

Yes. But the media has a severely over-inflated view of the fuskers this coming season, IMO, and so that factors in.
TTU is a lot better than Baylor.
Plus the hype Iowa is currently getting, and we play them on the road. Then of course there is Utah. Our schedule is brutal.

Utah and Iowa don't effect our conference finish.

Tech could be anywhere in the spectrum. Baylor is no longer the pushover they once were.

I don't think we finish 6th but it is hard to complain about this. We have to keep winning to start getting some pre season praise

Re: Big 12 media picks ISU 6th in the North

I'm a little surprised when I see OSU picked 5th in the South ... saw that a few times from different sources.

There might be a dogfight among A&M/Tech/OSU for 3rd.

Similar w/ ISU at 6th ... I can understand a lot of people wouldn't see a lot of separation among ISU, KU, KSU and CU. I would have expected those North votes 3-6 a little closer.

If you can wager that OSU would be 5th in South AND ISU last in the North, for some reason I would strongly bet against that.

I would argue that talent-wise, both NU and Mizzou stand above the rest.

Then KSU, KU, ISU, and CU are in a cluster. You'll notice the votes range from KSU w/ 79 to ISU w/ 55 which is starkly contrast to Mizzou w/ 125 and Neb w/ 156.

Imo, the voters had to select somebody as 3,4,5 & 6 and unfortunately ISU ended up 6. I don't agree with it but unfortunately one 7-6 season isn't going to change the media pundits view of ISU.
