I predict what you see in the grass lots will somewhat dissuade the perceptions many of your Hawkeye brethren carry about Ames. It should be a fun day, and I think you'll have a hard time hating ISU (don't get the impression you do anyways) after tailgating at the Jack.
I would suggest wearing neutral clothes. No need to kiss our ***, just don't be a d bag (and anyone wearing Hawk gear to Jack Trice when Iowa isn't playing is exactly that).
It's $15 to park in the public lots, and that's where the students go, so **** should be pretty crazy down there. As far as tickets, just go up and by a hill side. I'd expect about 47-50K based on the past few years, and that means the hills will be packed, but it's cheaper.
Have a great time!

Have a great time! I don't hate ISU. I love college football in general, want to experience as much of it as possible. I do take an interest in you guys before you play us, more as a scouting sort of thing. I meant to make it to a game last year but I wasn't able to. Thanks for the info. I don't think hillside seats are for me though. We'll just see what that tix situation is like when I get there, I suppose. -
Re: Northern Illinois
Like many others have said, get there 6 hours before the game and tailgate in the main grass student lot. You'll have a great time and finding tickets will come easy from there.

Re: Northern Illinois
I think the best place they find tix is just north of the stadium near the Jacobson bldg. For a non con game you should be able to find regular(non hillside) seats around $20 I bet, probably less.
If you want fun, go to the student section, its just off to the right when you come into town from University Ave from HWY 30. Parking anywhere close will be $15, you can try somewhere around HyVee, not a bad walk, but it would be to the student section I think.
Flask or small airplane bottles work for liquor. But Ive also seen geniuses get carted out with full cases in their arms.
You will see plenty of DB's wearing Hawk gear that night, please dont be one of them.
Lots open at 6 hours before gamtime or 6 am whichever is earlier. I forget if Thursdays are exceptions? Only the die hards like myself get there at a decent hour. People really dont seem to show up until 3 or so.

Re: Northern Illinois
I am also a hawk fan that has attended a few games at Trice - the most memorable being Seneca Wallace and "the Run"

Like the others said, just don't wear another team's gear - I always thought that was classless no matter what side you are on. If the ISU gear is to hard to put on, just wear a red shirt - a good compromise - then you could always saw you were cheering for whatever team is winning since both side are red. You cannot miss the tailgating, the large grass fields south of the stadium. I would think for a Thursday night game the should be a slow build up of the crowd - and plenty of time for the students to get some liquid courage in.
