It would seem from this that BYU doesn't have anywhere near the national following that ND does, so they aren't going to bring a national following and associated money, such as was lost with NU.
What does BYU have that is going to increase the revenue share of the other ten Big 12 schools?
If BYU was such a hot prospect, they'd be in the Pac-10. BYU is better than Utah in just about every regard...better facilities, better endowment, better budget, better attendance, better academics. Utah got chosen over them because Cal and Stanford objected to a religion-based school getting into their conference. Since Baylor is a Baptist school, the Big 12 evidently doesn't have a problem with that.
I'd like to see the conference add BYU and stick at 11 for awhile. Use the Big 10 scheduling model.

If BYU cannot maintain or increase revenue for the other ten schools, why would they be added?

If BYU cannot maintain or increase revenue for the other ten schools, why would they be added? I obviously don't know the financial numbers, but I could see how they could increase revenue. They are a national name with Mormons all over the country watching their games...that helps with ratings and would force ABC/Fox to shell out more money. They also bring a decent media market to the conference and get us back into the moutain time zone. BYU would be an asset academically and supposedly, they have an HD-ready broadcasting studio that COULD help in construction of a conference or partial-conference network. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't BYU already have a channel on DirecTV?
I don't know of many other schools not in the Big 11/Pac 10/SEC that would bring as much to the table as BYU does. ND and that's it. Teams like Arkansas, Louisville, BSU don't even come close. They may have a small budget now, but that is with MWC revenue and not Big 12. I think that the minute they join, they would be right in the middle of the conference in revenue and attendance. We'll see what happens, but I think that they would be a great addition.

BYU probably brings more than any other candidate not named Notre Dame.

BYU already has their own network on DirecTV and they do show some sports on there that are not telecast by the Mtn or Versus. The network is primarily for religious-focused LDS programming.

Re: Big 12 will have 12 teams by next season...
BYU would help the Big 12, and since they get next to nothing from the MWC, they would come for a song. I really don't know how we don't add them. Add two teams, put Oklahoma in the North, and everyone can be happy. This has to be done with no negative impact on the money current teams (including ISU will get)

With an athletic budget of $36,000,000, it seems more likely that BYU doesn't have a substantial national following.
If someone can post a link indicating that BYU has a large national following and would bring a substantial TV audience with them, I'll happily admit to being wrong. But until that happens, I'm not buying the large national TV audience angle for BYU. The numbers available just don't point to that.

I think they will get to 12 teams again. Maybe not next year but they will eventually. But who says it has to be BYU as one of them?

I fail to understand how one can judge BYU's national following based on their budget. Actually, it just means BYU gets little or no revenue from fat TV contracts and the shared bowl payouts of the BCS conferences.
BYU would be a superior choice for the Big 12. It has a much larger fan following than Utah, for example.
Keep in mind that BYU's revenue of $36.7 mil last year put them second only to TCU among schools in non-AQ conferences.
Now, about their fan following:
1. BYU averaged 64,236 (in a 64,000-seat stadium) in football attendance last year, which is 27th nationally.
2. BYU averaged 14,029 in basketball attendance last year, which is 17th nationally.
Utah's numbers, by comparison, were 45,155 (football) and 9,202 (basketball).
BYU would be a home run choice for the Big 12. An absolute home run.

Re: Big 12 will have 12 teams by next season...
I would think joining the Big12 would increase their fan base/following, and playing good schools will increase the money they pull in. They are good enough to win games, and that will turn into money. Honestly it probably wouldn't take long for them to be middle of the pack in the Big12 in terms of the money they pull in as long as they keep winning.
