I say no, but atleast they are giving him a chance rather than flat out denile which I expected. I share the frustration about how we always seemed to get hosed by these decisions, but the most likely reason that this doesn't happen at places like Oklahoma and Texas is that they just don't bring in as many players in questionable situations. They just offer a different 4-star athlete instead.

This sucks... I wonder what the real story is here?

He was enrolled, and then when it was determined some credit was improperly counted, it was reported, he was kept out of practice, a waiver was requested, and Rony took a summer class to make up for the credit that was improperly counted. Based on the article about the Neb bball player it seems the big 12 had grounds to not let Rony play for ISU ever, since he was enrolled without being technically eligible. I think the redshirt is a compromise all parties involved can be comfortable with.
Edit: Atleast I hope Rony is comfotable enough with it to stick it out for 3 more years. Maybe not the timeline he envisioned but all is not lost!

As for this deal I don't know how you can be eligible yet not be able to play but you can redshirt. I don't get it.

Re: Rony Nelson to redshirt 2010
If he stays focused and stay with the team....and then still has 2 years left to play it can only be good for ISU. Same with Reynolds....Having him the next 2 season could be huge.

I'm glad that Rony still gets two years, but it has to stink knowing that he did what he was supposed to do and still doesn't get the reward. Nobody likes being in that situation.

Re: Rony Nelson to redshirt 2010
This is not a good thing at all. We have a juco who is barely academically eligible transferring into a very tough university and he has to show academic improvement. If he wasn't a good student as a juco, how is he going to survive 2 semesters on an academic tightrope at ISU? We needed help right away on our DL - which is our weakest area.
Didn't Haughton come here as a juco?

You do realize this is the university that somehow got Troy Davis through correct?
And how many football players take very tough classes? Slim to none. He'll have music 102, geology 100, etc. and his tutors will do his homework for him.

Re: Rony Nelson to redshirt 2010
This will really hurt our depth a ton. But, if he can make it back, it will be better for him and ISU in the long run because he'll be more Big 12 ready in a year.
If I had to wager everything I own though... I bet we never see Rony in a Cyclone uniform. I just don't see it happening. But I hope I'm proven wrong.
As for our defense... I don't think I've ever seen an ISU football team with this little depth at DE and LB. LB especially. We have one guy... Lattimer... that basically is the backup at all 3 spots IMO. And he also has to be a backup at DE too. Basically because we have nobody else that is ready right now. We have 3 new starting LBs... and one backup that can play if one of them gets hurt. That's it. I don't think Jeremiah George or CJ Morgan are ready yet.
At DE... we have Maggitt and Moore... and Lattimer if needed. Nobody else is ready. In fact, I don't think Moore is ready yet either.
I love this coaching staff, but I cannot for the life of me understand why we've neglected the DL and LB positions so badly? And don't tell me that it's hard to find recruits for these positions. As someone else mentioned recently... UNI has had better D-lines than us the past few years... and that's the truth. If UNI can recruit these positions, we should be able to. Get it done! We don't need 20 WRs and 7 RBs.

Hes already in a practice uniform. Why would he quit? Hes living in Ames now and still going to school. He did a good job during the summer here, why can't he still do it during the year?

Ding Ding Ding. This is the reason. I have it on very good authority

It would make no sense for him to leave. I would assume he is on scholarship now.
