QB video on cyclones.com
Cyclones.com has several position videos from practice. I enjoyed the QB video. I was impressed with James Capello. He has nice balance and accuracy. http://www.cyclones.com/mediaPortal/...b_oem_id=10700 -

Re: QB video on cyclones.com
Please don't start the Capello talk already! We appreciate his fan club but we are trying to win in the Big 12. Guys, they are throwing balls into a net that's 15 feet away from them! How can you form an opinion on who has a better arm. BTW, if you know anything about football, you would know that it's a footwork drill......you should be watching their feet and their ability to move in the pocket while keeping their eyes on the target. Even Coach Herman made a statement to Austen about his balance. Those are some intangibles that make a great QB great, not how strong the arm is. Now, arm strength is important, but not in this system. You must have great pocket presence, the ability to move in pocket, and the knowledge to make the right reads and throws. If you really want to critique something, listen to Coach Rhoads' interview and hear him say that the offense turned over the ball and too many INT's today. That comes form not making the right reads and throws.....not arm strength! That's where we need improvement! 15 TD's and 17 INT's last season! We have four good QB's. Not many D1 programs can say that. Let's support them all and may the best man come out on top!

Re: QB video on cyclones.com
Obviously Austen is the man this year, but after that I'm still feeling pretty good about the QB position. All three of the guys seem to have good potential. JT can win (see Nebraska), word is that Capello has a monster arm, and despite not knowing much about him yet, Barnett was Herman's first real QB recruit and a very early offer/commitment.
Personally I'd like to see JT get the job because of his running ability. But at least it seems we'll have competition which is always a good thing.

We can't afford to have that many INTs, especially from a 5th year senior QB. Hopefully he was not the one throwing most of the picks. Our D can't be left on the field that long. All the QBs seem to have their strengths and weaknesses. The best at managing the game and keeping TOs down may end up with the most playing time.

Another backup for footballin's statement. If it was just a competition of who can throw the farthest this game would be ridiculous. It's all about footwork and having those intangibles to miss the defender all the time. Take the plays where it should have been a sack and a sure fire 7 yard loss and turn it into a 0,1,2 yd play. Arnaud is VERY good at that, however his accuracy and TD to INT ratio must improve for us to have success this year. I love the future backfields at Iowa State though too...way too early to be looking ahead to future seasons but I love what I see in Tiller, Barnett, and Capello as well as the plethora of quality RB's on the depth chart.

Did you read the part where I said he showed nice balance (ie footwork)?
By the way there is a difference between accuracy and arm strength. I commented that he showed nice accuracy. I didn't comment on arm strength.
Thanks for the lecture however.

Re: QB video on cyclones.com
As a side note, I am more concerned if our receivers can jump up and catch the ball in a crowd. The way we tossed the ball around last year, our receivers need to be very athletic to catch it. We may have arm strength, but the accuracy is another thing.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: QB video on cyclones.com
Some of my statement was intended for the blogger who stated, "Capello has a much better arm then Tiller." But the rest of my statement was intended for the James Capello fan club who have made comments on this forum the entire off-season about him being the better QB over Barnett and Tiller. None of the 3 backups have proven anything at this level. Tiller helped win the Nebraska game but he was not impressive at all. I thought they all looked pretty good in the footwork drills video from yesterday. However, footwork, accuracy, arm Strength means absolutely nothing if the QB is making the wrong read. They can be very accurate throwing the football to the other team....15 TD's and 17 INT's! Now, some of those INT's were probably not on Austen...for example tipped passes or balls that went through the hands of the receiver. But, it's a new season and we have nowhere to go but up! Let's root for the Cyclones!
