Best part about this one is the article in the paper the next day about how Roy Williams was "miffed" about the call made by Scott Thornley. Reporter asked Willoughby how he would have defended himself if he was in Vaughn's position? Willoughby's reply, "I wouldn't have been in his position." Classic.

Re: Bad Calls That Have Gone Our Way
I was going to mention McCarney's last game vs Missouri as well. The TD taken away from Mizzou at the end on the holding call
Also last year vs CU when we beat them it seemed like there was a call that helped us out in that game on more than one occasion. Can't think of any in particular though.
Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating. -

This goes for every team. This is true to a certain extent. Yes we have benefited from some blown calls but some of the horrible calls that have gone against us are some of the worst calls in the history of organized sports. In particular being the 3 pointer by Kansas during a dead ball situation after a player missed the first FT attempt on a 2 shot foul. It was an easily correctable mistake and it had to have been an absolute butcher job of the rules to count that basket. Probably the worst officiating job in the history of college basketball.

This is a question best answered by the teams that the calls went against - they'll remember a lot more clearly than any of us will.

Re: Bad Calls That Have Gone Our Way
Trying to brainstorm others...the Nebby game comes to mind from last year. Not so much that any were bad calls, but the fact that 5 of the 8 turnovers were reviewed and they were all confirmed or overturned in our favor.

At least Iowa State didn't have to deal with these two scenarios:

The CU offense lineman having a meltdown helped us a ton. CU was just about in the redzone on maybe a 2nd down play if I remember correctly.... The guy gets called for holding behind the line of scrimmage, then proceeds to make an arm motion towards the official gaining him a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, when he then said something less then nice to the official gaining him another 15 yard unsporstmanlike conduct penalty. I believe CU had a 2nd and 10 and ended up having a 2nd and 50 something after that guys little tirade. That was awesome.

The worst part of that whole situation was that not one of the 3 refs on the court had enough awareness to blow the play dead. The ref under the basket usually tosses the ball to the shooter and then says something like, "2 shots fellas, relax on the first" or something similar. As soon as that ball is rebounded and KU starts going the other way, at least that ref should be blowing his whistle like there's no tomorrow.
I can't believe an entire crew could be that unaware of the situation on the floor. One ref is bad enough, but the whole crew? Inexcusable.

ISU is still waiting for it's apology for the 3pt chaos at KU when the refs stole a win from the Clones.

This goes for every team. This.
How about the holding call at the end of McCarney's last game that took a Mizzou TD off the board and preserved the win? I don't remember how "bad" the call was, and I can't find a video of it, but I remember feeling verrrrrry fortunate that that call went our way.

Re: Bad Calls That Have Gone Our Way

Probably a hold. The better questions Pinkel should be asking is why is he running out of the shotgun on the 1 yard line?

I distinctly remember thinking during one of the eight turnovers (I can't remember which one) that there was absolutely no way the call would be upheld, and it was. It may have been the Helu fumble near the endzone now that I think about it...

I would be interested to know what the refs would have done had the kid missed the 3pt shot. Would it continued to have been a "live" ball or would they then have blown the whistle to stop the play?
