Keeler: Barta, JP both want series to continue
Good column with JP and Barta insisting they'd like the Iowa State-Iowa series to go on.
Even Danny Mac chimes in:

I like that Jamie got in there that we have already worked with our conference to keep the series going. He pointed out that it is up to Iowa to work with theirs. The ball is in their court.

Mac is awesome. A legend!
UI would be nuts to kill the series. In the next five years ISU will have something to lose. Yeah I love CPR that much and I think kool aid rocks. On top of that if they are that concerned about revenue just charge double ticket prices every other year. People will pay it. UI fans say they dont care but they do.

If EIU cancels the series there will be a short term 'cheer' from hawkeye fans, but three, five, ten years down the road when ISU is on the rise there will be an itch to play us again to 'settle the debate' if you will. Also, why does Keeler claim they will be leaving Pollard high and dry (rather than Cyclone Nation), why those choice of words? Does he like erking Cyclone fans? Irritating.

I don't think he's smart enough to be that deliberate in his choices of words.
And you're right about how that reaction will go.
For my money, I still think that the Big 12 will end up with 12 games, because most of our schools need that extra non-conference home game for revenue's sake, and Texas would love to keep their big non-conference payday games like ND on their without having to give up cupcakes entirely (and we shouldn't give them up entirely, either).
When the Big Ten-something goes to divisions, 8 games will end up being their most workable model, just like it was for the Big 12-something. They also will want to have non-conference home games for revenue purposes, and the 8 conference games has a proven track record of success.
In the end, I think we'll still have 4 non-conference games, Iowa and ISU will have room to play each other and enjoy an annual feast of MAC teams and cupcakes (and however we want to classify UNI), and life goes on like normal.

Re: Keeler: Barta, JP both want series to continue
A lot of Hawk fans are all for ending the series. After all, they could schedule eastern MI or Idaho and still sell all the game tickets, and then not worry about loosing to the worthless Cyclones again. Barta is smart to try and keep it going. In state rivalries really keep fans interested in programs in down years, and Iowa is not immune to these.

the featherbutts may face an inspired cyclone team.if austen arnaud is better on his mechanics,we may have a good chance to beat the squawks on their field.

Re: Keeler: Barta, JP both want series to continue
The only reason I would want to see the series end as a Hawk fan is because by keeping ISU, we likely lose the home and home series against teams like Pitt and Arizona. That's not something I want to see. Those are games to really get a feel for how good or bad the Hawks may be, and to showcase ourselves to both the national media and recruits.
I'm not knocking ISU here. But when we have fewer chances to play against good teams that we don't already play every year, it gets harder to really know how good or bad we are. And I wouldn't mind dropping a cupcake in favor of a Pitt or Arizona, but I know that isn't going to happen. And if forced to choose between ISU or Pitt/Arizona type games, I'll take option B. Those games have more to offer in the recruiting game.

Remind me who has the series lead in the last 12 years again? And You don't think the Iowa-Iowa State game has more to offer in at least the instate recruiting game? I'd beg to differ...and what recruit (instate or out) wouldn't want to see a game in that atmosphere.
Hilton Coliseum was specifically built to hold in sound with a solid concrete structure, steel doors, and a crowd that sits just a few feet from the court. With a fan base that frequently ranks among the nations largest crowds, players from opposing teams, as well as Iowa State, have said that the floor has shaken due to the loudness of the crowd -
