Exactly. I think with this schedule they will need to provide a shootout. The defense should be the cherry on top. We have had some major issues with the D being on the field way too long.

I think it is a good thing that they are going back and forth between scrimmages. It shows that both units have the ability and it all depends on if they can execute. The key is getting both units to execute at the same time during real games.
The D will probably get scored on quite a bit...I'm just hoping they are still opportunistic and will get a good amount of takeaways. That will help enormously if our offense can score easily.
BTW, at the beginning of last year everyone thought the D would suck and the O would carry the team.....didn't really turn out that way. I'll be waiting until Sept 2nd, to really form an opinion.
The offense better dominate or we are in trouble. I would love to see the defense dominate but I think our offense could be one of the better in conf with the seniors we have and if the line can hold together. If Austin can grasp the offense and learn to relax, it could be really fun to watch.
Besides our defense is young. I have faith our coaches will make it workable like last year. This season boils down to offense productivity. The defense can't carry the games.
Growing pains are going to happen defensively because we are starting a lot of new faces. I still think the defense is going to surprise a lot of people by the end of the year.
Just a reminder. It's ISU O vs. ISU D. Somebody has to win.
It shouldn't be a surprise if the more experienced and talented offense outperforms the defense. It certainly is vice versa.
Bear Bryant said it best... "If your opponent can't score, the worst you can do is tie".
Glad to hear our offense is making strides at this point but I am sure they have a ways to go. Same can be said about our defense too. One scrimmage won't tell us what we want to know right now..... September 2nd.... we will know.
