It worries me when the basis of the starting punt job is who can "boom" it the farthest.
Without context (imagine that on a message board) -- the above comment sounds -- I don't know -- maybe a little bitter/mean spirited/negative in some way (a *little*).

Now the above quote provides some context, and makes me curious why coach's quote caused you concern. It seems to (completely uninformed) me that being able to punt the ball a looong way is a good thing -- when added to other punting qualities. Kind-of like a bonus -- "Not only can he get the ball off quick and place it accurately with loads of hang time, he *also* has a chance to boom a 60 yarder in the air on occasion" . . .
