Re: Good Sports Bars
I'll be at the Ridgemont for away games this year. I love being within walking distance of that place!

Re: Good Sports Bars
Ridgemont is a great place...I would avoid Trophy's though. A few years back a buddy and I went there for a ISU vs. Colorado game and I even called ahead to make sure they would have the game on TV. We showed up well before kick off and they assured us the game would be on the big screen with the sound so we ordered a Trophy Tower (120oz) beer and settled in. Well game started and no TV so we asked again and they let us know they would not be showing the ISU game, but instead would be showing the Iowa Game.
I told them I thought this was the official Cyclone game watch spot for the DSM Cyclone club and the waitress told us that her and the bartender were Hawkeye fans and thats what would be on.
Needless to say we chugged our beer while belting out the ISU Fight Song and flipped everyone off as we walked out.

We went there to watch one of the Sweet 16 games and they had some DII or DIII championship game on all of the TV's instead. I asked them to change to the NCAA tourney game and they said "Isn't this it?"
If you can't stand obnoxious Steeler's fans, don't ever go there during football season.
But, if you do want to hear some talentless chick screech out "Before He Cheats" at the top of her lungs like she's the first woman to ever karaoke it every night, it's your place.

Re: Good Sports Bars
If us CF'ers find a location we call go too, we could easily turn it into an Iowa State bar. I like the Ridgemont but would also like a place where you can get some food when you drink...also I am with GC, Trophy's is terrible unless you want to see some drunk white trash do some sweet karaoke

Re: Good Sports Bars
I believe Chris has already announced that The Ridgemont is the official CF watch bar in Des Moines... correct me if I'm wrong. They do allow you to order food in, and have even provided us coupons in the past.

Re: Good Sports Bars
If you like a small atmosphere, try the Cottontail. It might get a little too Hawkeye Homerish if there is an UI game on around the same time, but the people are nice and usually have good free food. But I agree with Victors having amazing food and lacking on tv. I also like Rookies in Waukee.

Also, make sure your tetanus is up to date.

Re: Good Sports Bars
Ridgemont, FTW. The owner is a big Cyclone fan, and they always have killer specials during ISU games. Although they don't serve food, they're cool with you bringing in food. We've ordered pizzas in there during basketball games before.

Ridgemont will be my choice then...

Johnny's downtown is probably my favorite though.
