More yards... AROB or Spann?
Im actually going Spann
Im hoping that AA and AROB both take plenty of carries.
Or better yet, the miracle we've all been hoping for... and our passing game shows up.
Re: More yards... AROB or Spann?
I hope AA does not have to take any carries. Rather not risk an injury in this game if ARob, et al can carry the load. Passing game will show up, just hope we only need to use wide receiver screen and tight ends. I don't really want to show to much. Just hoping simple run game can keep the offense on the field with our experienced O-line and give our defensive front 7 plenty of time to rest and get sideline coaching, so they improve each series they are out there.
Re: More yards... AROB or Spann?
I think A-rob has more yards. I just feel like the running game is really going to click tomorrow, even though NIU has most of their defense back. With a health A-Rob and AA, plus a better understanding of what Herman wants to do will hopefully make for the offense we are all hoping for.
Re: More yards... AROB or Spann?
I really think A-Rob shreds it up tomorrow. Might be a slow start, but I believe the offense gets it going in the second half.
Re: More yards... AROB or Spann?
How much will they run the ball in the second half if we get ahead 21-3 at half?
Re: More yards... AROB or Spann?
I'm pretty nervous about Spann against our inexperienced front seven and no Sims to help in the running game. Hopefully I'm proven wrong.

Me too. First, NIUs defensive front is more seasoned than ours, which makes a difference in the first games of the season. Second, I think our passing attack will be more effective, so we may run less.
I'd imagine they'll end up pretty close in ypc.

I don't get why people keep bringing this up as nerve point, DLwise, Parker, bJohnson, Dutch, and Neal all have plenty of game experience, knott, Klein played a lot last year. What scaries me is the lack of depth at LB,
Re: More yards... AROB or Spann?
I think Spann. If given the opportunity, I'm sure that Rhoads and Herman want to see what the new guys can and can't do. I really hope they get that opportunity. If Arob has to go all game every game we're in real trouble.

This. I think that we'll run plenty, but ARob is going to be spelled quite a bit. I expect Woody, White and Johnson to all get a series as the primary RB. Woody, of course, will see some extra time as an H-Back.

Front 7 = DL and LB. You are absolutely right. Depth is a HUGE concern. We can not afford injuries.
Re: More yards... AROB or Spann?
I think Spann will have more yards, but ISU will have more points, so we'll all be happy in the end. I hate NIU, ever since they told me back in 2003, "Go back east to your corn growing state" Anyone catch that, East, to Iowa, out of Dekalb, Il? The town with a corn cob on every sign. Anyways, I just don't see ISU losing this one. Get out with a win. Ugle, pretty, stupid, I don't care, just win.

Well said. Beating a good team anyhow, anyway is what we need.

Aren't they breaking in 3 new LB's also?

According to what I've read they return 9 starters on defense, but some newcomers have beat out the returners at some positions. It sounds like at least 2 of the LBs are the same as last year.
