Am I a bad fan?
I never thought I'd have to question myself as I have attended most home football games since the mid 90's, my family have been donors, my grandpa was awarded with Cyclone of the Year in 2000 and he played football for ISU in the 40's and I bleed Cardinal and Gold.
A while back some of my buddies (one from UNI and the other goes to St. Olaf) asked me if I would go see DJ Armin van Buuren (who has been ranked #1 DJ in the world for 3 years running) at the Epic Center in Minneapolis on Sept. 2nd (tomorrow night) and without really checking dates for conflicts I agreed. Well with money invested in the concert already, I figured out it was the same night as the home opener but without wanting to disappoint my good high school friends I still planned on the concert. But as it gets closer to the home opener I am thinking of cutting my loses with the money I spent on the concert ticket and ditching my friends to attend tomorrow night's game. If I ultimately decide to skip the game for the concert, as an ISU student, am I being a bad fan?
To me this a huge dilemma, because I really really want to tailgate and attend the game tomorrow but how often does a DJ of this caliber (#1 in the world, he's Dutch) come do a concert in the Midwest? I guess I don't really know because I just started getting into that genre of music.

A DJ?!?
Yes...to the question. -
Re: Am I a bad fan?
Ask yourself this: What would I rather watch, ISU's football home opener... Or a DJ, that I can listen to at anytime...
Yeah, go to the game.

A real fan would know that the Labor Day game is always on a Thursday.

Game. For sure. Absolutely. Have them come too. :)
But really though, it's the first game of the year. There's only one 'first' game of the 2010 season. And I know it's gonna be a lot of fun. Be there.

Re: Am I a bad fan?
How about just listening to his music while you tailgate, you kill two birds with one stone. AND, to make it feel like a live concert, just stick your head right next to the speaker.

I laughed heartily at the above quote.
That's one of the dumbest sentences ever typed.

Sounds like a very good idea indeed, but if I blasted trance/euro house music while tailgating I think I'd get many odd looks and no one would want to tailgate with me!

That's one of the dumbest sentences ever typed. From his Wikipedia page: "Armin van Buuren (born in Leiden, Netherlands on 25 December 1976) is a Dutch trance producer and DJ. In 2007, 2008, and 2009 he was voted number one in DJ Magazine's annual top 100 list of the most popular DJs." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armin_van_Buuren

Re: Am I a bad fan?
You absolutely MUST have the season opener date burnt into your brain.

All I can think of is that commercial that used to be on of germans jumping around in a room listening to some techno stuff.
