Lower deck sucks, get in a hour early and try and get one of the first rows in the balcony, you can still get rowdy and you actually get a better perspective on the game. Just my opinion though, 5 years of sitting in the student section, granted I'm a bit vertically challenged.
Yeah, I would go for the first 3 rows in the upper deck of the student section. All the games I had been to as a student, I staked out a spot in the lower deck.
The first time I sat in the upper deck of the student section was in the first row for the Iowa @ ISU '07 game. That was a sweeeeeeet view of Shaggy finishing off the Hawkeyes.
I prefer the lower deck, about halfway up. I don't like the upper deck because even if you are in the front row, going nuts, it seems like there's not as many people doing the same a few rows behind you. You get more crowd noise farther down, and if you stay farther than 10 rows up from the bottom, you still get a good view.
