Encouraging, when it's assessed that way.
Statistically irrelevant, maybe, but who knows?
And ISU probably should've won 31-3.

ISU should have had at least 2 more TD's. NIU also should have had at least 2 more FGs.

It means nothing, you can't make comparisons like this. Different teams different years.
Re: NIU's last 7 openers - ISU loss among worst
The score really should have been 44-9.

Come on! We are already out of other things to talk about and can't start talking about Iowa until Sunday. \
What was the temperature during those games?

Yup. Nice to walk out with a good win, but feeling like it should have been worse. Something the coaches can use, especially because we can't make stupid mistakes offensively against next week's defense.

I can't, and yet I just did. I must be magic!
The reason I bring it up is because NIU fans expected (and based on their experience from the last seven years, not unwisely) a much closer game, and they know their team better than I do.
This demonstrates that the NIU program has consistently competed well (except for the blowout vs. Ohio State, who was #1 at the time) over the past 8 years. Their fans expected to be in this game, and were shocked by the end of the first half. That historically decent football team never quit, and still got thrashed.
